Here we go with another episode of AOS!

AOS 5x02 FULL REACTION

Comments

There's a YouTube video of her and the actor playing Kasius getting their makeup applied. It's pretty interesting.

Tom Sinclair

Jemma's conversation with Kasius reminded me of when she was undercover in Hydra and was being questioned by Bakshi. She has changed so much since S1 and it's so cool to see that she still has her basic qualities of compassion but is a lot tougher.

Tom Sinclair

Exactly! That's what makes this show so good - they re-invent themselves, sometimes more than once during the same season (S4, anyone?)

Tom Sinclair

Deke reacts in a very realistic way, strangers just came into his home and his world and started telling him how he or humanity should be living their lives and keeps running around causing a ruckus, of course he's not going to be happy. He's scared, the Kree can end all of their lives so quickly, humanity is nothing but slaves and just do what they're told - and here comes a group with no situational awareness and preaching freedom - it's just a bad combination that's bound to get people killed and Deke is trying to avoid that.

Here is the thing that I feel is very important - the team still operates very much in a 2018 free world mindset, in many ways, it's like when Americans go overseas into oppressive regimes and try to change things and spread a different way of thinking - you cannot change people's minds if you do not understand the world the oppressed are living in or realize that not everyone has grown up with these thoughts of fighting back for freedom and democracy - the Lighthouse is an oppressive regime, humanity has been enslaved and tagged and treated like nothing more than animals, they exist as a labor force, as slaves, there to serve a purpose - they do not see life the way our team from 2018 does because they have lived for decades/their whole lives being dehumanized - our team however has spent their lives being warriors and lived in a free world, they can't possibly imagine a life of this sort of enslavement and the mindset, and this is where I had a lot of problems with the way our team reacts - Tess and Deke have both consistently warned the team about blending in and not causing trouble, people don't make waves on the Lighthouse because making waves mean renewal and renewal means death - the Kree use basically a mini hunger games to weed out people and keep others in line - this is why whenever our team kills a Kree, you see Deke freak out, you see him talking about how the team is hazardous and it's like herding rats, because that's the truth - sure we love our team and how they fight, but our team has come into this situation from a very 2018 mindset sort of arrogance and NOT LISTENING to the people who actually live in this oppressed society about the way this world now works and because of the team's actions, there have already been consequences and retaliations resulting in people's deaths - it only solidifies Deke's fears - also, it is very important to note that when Tess and Deke were talking about believing in SHIELD and the stuff that Virgil talked about, Deke specifically mentioned that the belief is toxic and will get people killed and Tess said she knows what he lost - Deke lost something/someone because of SHIELD, because of this savior belief, it makes it even more understandable why he hears this and runs the other way - the way the team talks to Deke or sometimes even to other characters, it comes off as very condescending and preachy, and again this is because of this 2018 mentality - especially the scenes of Daisy talking to Deke about the Framework - Daisy operates from a 2018 perspective of just having seen it used, but it doesn't mean only she knows what she's talking about - notice that she continues making assumptions about Deke, yet still does not understand the gravity of what Deke (and Tess and others) have had to live with their whole entire lives - as Deke said, the Lighthouse is a delicate ecosystem, and already because of the team being here, the balance has been upset - is it really a wonder that Deke is angry and reacts to that? Think about it this way, Deke has spent his life surviving, he's done good with it, he's keeping his head down and keeping the peace, and then suddenly a group of people comes bulldozing in preaching about freedom and democracy and not having any situational awareness with actions that put others in danger with that ignorance, of course Deke wouldn't be happy - a bunch of strangers just came into his home, his world, and started telling him how he should behave and how he should live his life - it's like someone from a first world coming into a third world country and judging how that third world person lives in order to survive. I love the team, but their shenanigans in these first two episodes are so dangerous in putting others in danger. They don't want to listen to Deke but they should.

Artemis9991

When I first saw Deke, I didn't know what to think of him. Now seeing it again, I totally understand his whole POV. He seems abrasive, but it makes sense knowing the world now.

also with the season having a different feeling, they wanted it to have a completely different feeling and vibe. if you notice throughout the show each season is different. the show is constantly changing and reinventing itself, they don't want to keep it the same, they like changing things up.

jade

watching for the second time, I'm appreciating Deke's character so much more! probably because of Jeff Ward hahaha. you have to consider that the people who are now in the Lighthouse, were born and raised there, they did not have a normal education, yes, they are human, but it is a totally different culture.

Carine Allen

The blue lady with the balls of steel is also Julie Mao on The Expanse. Great screen presence without saying a word.

Stefan Klement

Funny watching Ming-Na doing stunts when she was originally injured doing stunts. They found a way to work around her injury so she could still do fight scenes.

Jarrod Wild

The sound is actually better like this, with the mic there is a lot of white noise / static noise. Its not the mic itself that is the issue, more like placement & setting. Anyways, awesome reaction as always! :)

Alex Kolsing

That girl Tess is from the 100. The mountain girl that helps them.

Latefah Waller

The girl that plays Tess here also played Maya on the 100, that's where you know her from probably ;)

Sascha Koch

5 seconds into the video and i'm totally fanboying about the shirt haha amazing, i love it

Sascha Koch

This season does have a different feel to it. And your right about the location thing. Deke actor is name Jeff ward by the way. We have to have a ward every season lol πŸ˜‚

Christopher simeon

I dig the new shirt!

Rob Flynn
