The Supers (Superman & Supergirl) stories have always been about hope. They're held up as ideals to strive towards. Characters like Green Arrow and Batman stories are not about that and more the dark and gritty side of life. The Flash is definitely closer to the Supers, in tone. It's their basic make-up of positivity. In D&D terms, Barry Allen and Kal-El and Kara Zor-El are considered lawful good. They believe there's always a better option than killing (although Supergirl actually has killed more than Barry or Kal and can be a bit more hardcore, probably because of some more hardline Kryptonian upbringing than Kal ever had). Oliver is more nuetral good, I'd think. He tries to find a better way than killing, but feels that sometimes certain people just need killin'. Different people like different comic stories because they line up more with their ideologies. I like them all, even if I personally align myself with darker heroes. I'd LIKE to believe there's a better way. I like to believe in hope. But, I can understand if some people don't get into the brightness of the Supers stories or even The Flash (my all-time favorite character) and prefer darker things.
