July, I was waiting for this one. You got the right idea. When this one originally aired. A few reactors thought of it as character assassination for Fitz to go through with the plan. But character assassination is a derogatory term for when a character goes from good to evil too quickly or out of nowhere for plot reasons. But 1, Fitz is not evil, the farthest i would go is to call him a ruthless pragmatist. And 2 this has been cooking for a looong time now and I love that you appreciate that. And hearing you explain how you understood it back to us, you completely got it, which not everybody did at first. One more thing to add is that they are sides of his personality because he lived a whole other life as the doctor in the framework. He of course knows which life is the real one but those memories are just as strong in his mind as the memories from the real world. In that sense the psychic split was a coping mechanism. This is true for all of the characters that went into the Framework, just look at Mack and his memories of Hope, which were very relevant at the beginning of the season. Fitz's case is, of course, more intense because he was the one that changed the most (i believe someone said this in a comment somewhere) because the thing that changed in his life went back to childhood. And so his brain injury was just the facilitator for the whole thing. In conclusion, as someone said already above. The doctor is Fitz and Fitz is the Doctor. Them manifesting as different people was a coping mechanism IMO. That's why Fitz said "I think I'm a bad person" when he came out of the Framework, because being this ruthless was not a part of the personality of the Fitz we knew but it IS in his nature, as one change in the past was able to turn him into that person. EDIT: PS: (as someone else also said above) Do go back and watch the interrogation scenes from 5x05 the foreshadowing work is amazing. Anyway, I love this show, this and the episode where half the team are switched by LMDs (4x15 "Self Control") are my favorite episodes of the whole show so far. And I love your reactions, you are one of only two reaction channels I patron (the other being Blind Wave). PS2: Why do I always write pages upon pages worth in these comments, sorry about that.

2018-12-09 03:43:49 +0000 UTCThe first time we saw the Odium (black stuff in the viles) was with Kasius. It's not something that you should've known from before or anything.

2018-12-08 05:09:11 +0000 UTCYes, there is no reset button on this show. Anything that has happened before, any decision that a character makes has lasting consequences.

2018-12-08 05:06:54 +0000 UTCMany people said the same as you, about Jemma throwing up and probably being pregnant, but she did just have a HUGELY emotionally heavy day.

2018-12-08 05:05:55 +0000 UTCOn this watch through, I noticed that after the beacon exploded, on the following episode someone, I think Mack, asks Fitz if he's okay 'cause he got pretty banged up from that explosion. I think that is the trauma that re-aggravated his brain injury. Jemma, while talking to Mack and Yo-Yo in this episode, paused when she mentioned something about either Mack or Yo-Yo re-aggravating an old injury. Right after that, she went to find Fitz.

2018-12-08 05:02:35 +0000 UTCYes! Iain does an amazing job. But let's also give props to Chloe. Even though she was strapped down on the table, she showed so much emotion with just her face and voice.

2018-12-08 04:50:15 +0000 UTCI also think this ties back to S2 when Fitz had an alternate personality that manifested as Jemma.

2018-12-08 04:00:04 +0000 UTCYou were so caught up in the moment I think you missed the part of the dialogue where Daisy asks Fitz "who're you talking to?" right before Jemma shows up - that was the big clue that something was wrong and that it was actually Fitz. Fitz basically, as Jemma summed up, had a psychic split - the fact that he wasn't sleeping also didn't help the situation and made things worse - the Doctor personality inside him gave him a way, but the Fitz side of him was unwilling to do it, so this push and pull really was just exacerbated by all the stress which resulted in this manifestation where his mind just couldn't handle it. It's not until the end of the episode after Fitz had restored Daisy's powers that it was two personalities in a way merging into one. The Doctor side of him accounted for the fact that Fitz might resist, so he had Deke held as a hostage, Jemma was more or less a bonus when she walked in. The acting on this show really is phenomenal, it's a great cast, and Jeff Ward (who plays Deke) in this episode really got to have a spotlight to show more of the range he's got, that Deke was beyond just this sarcastic guy from the future but also there is this tenderness to him and this soft side, and I mean, we often forget that Deke grew up an orphan and enslaved, the chances of him showing his emotions openly was likely very few, but now he's got family and a grandmother who reminds him of his dead mother, I think this is one of the few cases where he finally felt safe to express those emotions. Can't wait for the rest of the season, I'm personally very excited to see you react to 5x17 :D

2018-12-08 01:48:01 +0000 UTCI had the same thought as you about Yoyos arms so I went back and rewatched 5x08 and in the future she has black gloves on so you cant see her arms. I'm looking forward to certain scenes in the next few episodes!

2018-12-08 01:15:24 +0000 UTCThis is the VERY BEST superhero show out there and NO ONE is talking about it!! To my opinion this show is better than the Marvel movies. That's my opinion. Its all in thanks to the writers. They use the timeline of plots brilliantly. I love how observant you are when watching the show. Sometimes you bring up things I didn't think about. Your analysis is so thoughtful its insightful and entertaining. You should be a professional critic. I would check that out if I were you. This was my favorite episode of the season and I've been waiting for your reaction for months. It was so great!!!! Thank you Julie for your enthusiasm and excitement it is truly contagious. Have a good night! π

2018-12-08 00:57:59 +0000 UTCWhen Daisy said that line, that's where I said, "Oh, CRAP!" (Only I didn't say "crap") ;-)

2018-12-08 00:24:11 +0000 UTCThe Deke consoling Jemma scene is probably one of the scenes I've most rewatched. It is really a side of Deke that I don't believe we've seen before. Glad to see you've adopted Deke. Most interested in seeing your reaction to Ep 21.

2018-12-08 00:23:26 +0000 UTCif you listen closely when fitz and the doctor are arguing, daisy goes "who are you talking to?" THAT LINE STILL HAUNTS ME TO THIS DAY. honestly iain and chloe absolutely just killed this scene they were SO SO SO GOOD it's a damn crime that no one in this cast has ever been nominated for an acting award. also jeff and elizabeth made me sob in that final scene. this was an episode of a lot of tears and a lot of me just continuously praising those four specifically for their performances IT'S SO GOOD!!!! IT HURTS BUT IT'S SO GOOD!! also the cast interviews about this reveal are HILARIOUS i think it was at wondercon, i definitely recommend watching those when you get the time.

2018-12-08 00:13:10 +0000 UTCThis is why AoS is the best! When an event occurs (like Ward fucking up Fitz's brain or the Framework) we don't just move past it without any consequences. We don't just say goodbye to that specific storyline and act like it never happened or affected the characters. In this show we're never fully done with any storyline, the past always comes back into play somehow....in the most epic ways as well! Yes, The actors are amazing...but the writers man, they are fucking genius!!

2018-12-08 00:07:45 +0000 UTCI love this episode. Yes Juli, we can see all the actors emotions. Mostly Iain, he showed 3 personalities (The Doctor, Season 2 Damaged Fitz and the real One). He Expressed 2 Separate personalities in one body language(after Jemma showsup). And we can feel that difference. Aah, I really love the actor. Daisy said"I will never forgive U". we have to see how that will all pan out. Deke's revealing to Jemma, love that scene. And everyone got their own storyline. I love this show very much. Juli,You are really good at catching the clues forshadowing. You asked which one is most exciting for me among 15-19 well, I am excited for 18th eps. And I hope you will be to. Great reaction again, thank you take care.
2018-12-07 23:45:04 +0000 UTCSame I'm looking forward to episode 17

2018-12-07 23:40:25 +0000 UTCI love this episode but for some reason I felt like you werenβt as excited as you normally are. I donβt know if I just expected a bigger reaction to the fritz twist or if your tired but it just felt off to me. Please get some rest βΊοΈ. Appreciate all your work tho Julia. In 5x05 Fitz mentions maybe having prodromal Schizophrenia and all those badass evil fitz moments in space and with hunter was the doctor taking over. I donβt know if you understood that both fitz and the doctor side merged near the end. They are not separate anymore. Fitz is the doctor and the doctor is fitz. It was him. Iβm excited for 17.

2018-12-07 22:41:06 +0000 UTCI swear you are amazing at predicting this show. The amount of times you guessed lines exactly. Now you predicted Fritz
