AoS 5x22 FULL REACTION

And here we are... At the end of season 5 😭 I can't believe I have reacted to 110 episodes of this amazing show... I have cried, laughed and screamed like never before! But most importantly I have found an amazing fandom that made fall in love with the show even more!

Thank you for welcoming me to the AOS family! Here's the reaction... I WASN'T READY FOR IT!!

Love you guys! Should we have a live chat tomorrow? Or when? So we can talk about the AOS finale!

AoS 5x22 FULL REACTION

Comments

As I understand it, Ward was originally cast as Virgil, who gets killed in the first five minutes of the season. But they liked the actor so much they switched his part.

I'm not finished yet with the final thoughts, but about creating a paradox, which you worry about at around the one hour mark: (and beware a bit of a rant) The bigger paradox is that if they averted the dystopian future (which they did), then they couldn't have come back from said future so the only conclusion from their continued existence in this new timeline where they have successfully changed that future is that paradoxes are not a reality altering thing and that time is not fixed, it is ever-changing. This is the present they are in now and it cannot be changed by paradoxes, the present can only be changed by doing stuff different in the past and doing so either creates new timelines or overwrites the present. Deke did most certainly not blink out of existence (even though they don't show it), he is now a remnant from an alternate future and his existence in not contingent on the existence of the future he came from. Also, they don't have to worry about affecting a future that won't exist now that they have averted it, because keeping Fitz in cryosleep is not a requirement for this present to exist as it exists even after they branched out of (or overwrote) the dystopian future (as explained in my first paragraph). Furthermore, the future they visited exists on it's own timeline now (Or not at all). And so, if they don't get Frozen Fitz he'll wake up to a future where the earth wasn't cracked, a future where he is not needed, the final reason to wake him up in the present. Time travelling is very confusing and shows/films that feature it have to take a stand when it comes to paradoxes, constancy, the ability to change the future and, if the future can be changed, whether it is overwritten or parallel timelines are created. They took a stand on all of them except for the last one, but they didn't need to with what was shown. And I love that they took the most matter-of-fact approach to all of it. The present is the present no matter how it came to be, nothing that is here now binks out of existence because it is not contingent on what "will be" (or even what "was", if alternate timelines become cannon later). That's the "constancy" part of it. The writers did an amazing job this season in setting the rules of the reality of the show when it comes to time travel and I can't thank them enough for putting in the effort and the brainpower needed for it to work.

Genius, yeah, that's it. Since the dystopian future was averted, Fitz doesn't need to remain in cryo-sleep.

DaveHz

I am very exited for the live chat but could you add a countdown timer to it so that it's easier to know when it is

First things first: Thank you Julie for all your great, honest, emotional, funny and just wonderful reactions. I'm with you from the very first episode, become a Patreon because of this show and will stay of course, cause I like to give you something back for all what you do. AoS is one of my most beloved TV Series ever! Also I'm totaly into Queen melinda May. She is the best character, I love her so so much. Also FITZ_Simmons. Gosh who can not lfall in love with them? They are amazing. This finale was everything. Emotional, funny, it has a lot of tension and man Fitz dying. I felt like I was dying to. The scne get's me every time. I'm happy that we have a chance to get Fitz back, but it will also mean everything happend in the future, proposal, wedding, meeting Deke etc. has never happend to this Fitz. That breaks my heart still. Better than loosing him for real, but also ... sad. And Melinda and Coulson parasailing? I love it. If anyone they deserve it. But I still hope they will find a way to bring them back, I mean AoS without them? Wouldn't be the same. But I'm pretty sure it will be a thing, saving Coulson, cause we get two more seasons *yay* With Once upon a time this was the show I loved the most. I wish you and your family a great christmas holiday and all the best. See you on the next reaction, from whatever show you are bringing me to, cause I love you react to it. So. ♥

Jenny Schymanski

There was 2 Fitz the moment future Fitz got back to the present. Nature wont stay still and do nothing for this. So the other one has to die. It happens on ep5 so i guess the writers are genius bcs most of us forgot about this stuff. And season 6 is about to air on July. 6 months to go :(

Richard Harvi

I can’t wait for s6!!!! Promo pics and set photos should suffice until then. BTW Chloe Bennet posted a pic of Daisy’s S6 costume on insta, it looks great

Bejo

Since you’ve watched Season 5 by now and you know season 6 and 7 are coming, it should be okay for you to also know that Jeff Ward (our Deke) is going to be upgraded to series regular in Season 6 when the show returns. They announced that at Comic Con earlier this year in the summer. And also, even before season 6 renewal it was pretty much implied that they had more plans for Deke. I feel it is important to point out that remember in the episode when May and Deke were fighting on the alien ship, Deke took some navigational chart from the alien console, the camera stayed on him as he said something like “this might come in handy” - and now that SHIELD has a space ship and they’re looking for Fitz, that navigational chart will certainly come in handy.

So, Daisy and the Inhumans aren’t in the movies because despite AOS and the rest of the MCU technically being in the same universe, they are under control of different divisions, and the reality is that Kevin Feige who is head of Marvel Studios and Ike Perlmutter who is head of Marvel Company (comics and TV) have not gotten along for a long while. They came to blows over the filming of Civil War and that was when Disney stepped in and shifted things at Marvel so that Feige no longer answered to Perlmutter but to Disney themselves, this effectively separated Marvel TV from Marvel Cinematic Universe and it’s why you won’t see TV characters in the films. The Inhumans were going to have a movie and AOS was suppose to be the stepping stone for that, but since Perlmutter and Feige split, that connection was gone. Perlmutter was rumored to be the one pushing for the Inhumans but once Feige didn’t have to answer to him, they eventually scrapped the plans for the Inhumans movie and Marvel TV side did the show instead which in the end was not successful. So while on the surface the TV and movies exist in the same universe, they will likely never connect fully except having characters moving from movie to the show, though not the other way around. And as for the timeline of the show to movie events, the last three episodes all run concurrently to the events of Infinity War. And since the show won’t be back until June/July of 2019, it will be premiering AFTER Avengers 4 has already been released so likely the next season will be set after the events of the movies and everything is fixed, so as to not have to address that event or give out spoilers before the film is out and the season not being handcuffed again by movie events like season 1 was by Winter Soldier movie twist with Hydra. And regarding the time loop and paradox with Fitz - the loop doesn’t continue because they already broke it. Because they broke the loop, it won’t need to continue so the Fitz that went out into space doesn’t need to wait until decades into the future. And as for Deke, the writers purposely left that one ambiguous, they wanted people to wonder, which is why they don’t address anything about Deke in the actual show and when asked in interviews, they don’t specify what happened either. But co-showrunner Maurissa Tancheron was not very subtle in her tweets before season 6 renewal was announced that if they were to be back for season 6 then we could expect to see more Chloe and Jeff shenanigans. So it was clear that the writers intended to leave his fate ambiguous and that if season 6 were to happen then they still had plans for Deke. So when the show was announced to have returned at the very last minute, pretty much down to the wire again, my assumption was that Deke would play a part in the future storyline. They always had plans for his survival.

This is how the season went in my eyes. https://ibb.co/RhsWhVY

I'm leaning towards Deke blinking out of existence. That room they show at the end is the same room where Deke showed Daisy all of that stuff he had squirreled away (there's a brief shot of both tools, the future one and present one, on the table). All that's left is what was in the room before plus Fitz's tool. And no one said a word about Deke all throughout the ending. Jemma didn't even question where Deke went. I can't imagine that if Deke went off to roam the world he couldn't have taken that stockpile of stuff with him so easily (or quickly given how little time had passed). *However*, Jeff Ward has signed on as a series regular for seasons 6 and 7, so who knows what's up. Maybe he's blinked out and he'll blink back *into* existence once frozen-Fitz is recovered. :)

Jarrod Wild

Watching this finale is like torturing myself, but there's that wonderful glimmer of hope at the end, at least for Fitz. And Coulson and May will be parasailing, all is right with the world.

Jarrod Wild

I was really hoping you would have taken my suggestion to cue up the first of Robin's drawings in ep 5x01 after you finished 5x22. Someone above already spoiled the surprise. The first drawing of hers shown is the final shot of the finale.

David Boyd

to be fair, they throw in new characters out of the blue every damn time in the Avengers movies or in the MCU in general, so it wouldn't be to hard to somehow give Daisy at least a cameo in the movies. Or at least give a shoutout or reference to the show, that's all the fandom asks for. I still have some hope they'll do it in Captain Marvel or Endgame but it's getting smaller and smaller each movie they don't freaking do it :D

Sascha Koch

Oh yes Daisy is strong enough to be an Avenger. She’s even stronger now with the serum and her mother’s DNA mixed.

Jonathan Jones

I, for one, would really like to see your rewatch for the different insights and appreciation you might have for the episodes. You caught a lot of stuff the first time, but it'd be interesting to see if catch different stuff (maybe even stuff I still haven't caught).

Thadman

Considering stuff happening in Avengers 3 & 4 and stuff from the Ant-Man movies AND Captain Marvel, I'm sure they could find a way to bring Coulson back IF they wanted.

Thadman

Oh this damn episode did it again and broke me.. :D from day 1 i was curious for your reaction to this and especially Fitz' "death" because i always thought "wow if she freaks out already so early into the series, i wonder how she's gonna survive 5x22", well now i know^^ this episode and this season along with Infinity War left so many things to talk about, i think it would take a whole novel to write here in the comments, so i'll save me all of that trouble and wait for the livestream to talk about it. That will be awesome :) PS: only thing i will say right now, i told you at the beginnig of season 5 that there is a reason why AoS is on such a long break until it returns (almost 1 and a half years between S5 and S6) and it is because of Infinity War. So it's safe to assume that the outcome of IW took place after this episode ended and it will heavily influence the story of season 6. (at least i hope so)

Sascha Koch

Inhumans was something the show could use 'cause the movie division didn't care to do anything with that property and it was a way to bring powered people onto the show. I THINK when they started the first season, they wanted to make Skye into Daisy Johnson, but if they didn't get the go ahead to do Inhumans, they could just leave her as Skye. But, they got the go ahead to use Inhumans pretty quickly. In order to bring Daisy into the movies, they'd have to introduce Inhumans to the movie-going audience (since most of them don't watch AoS). It's POSSIBLE they might mention something about them in Captain Marvel 'cause it deals a lot with Kree, but they might not at all. The main reason on the show that AoS didn't ever work with The Avengers is 'cause Coulson is still believed to be dead and he is the reason for the forming of the team The Avengers. He's the catalyst that made the team gel as a team, so that's why Fury never mentioned it to them that he's still alive. I'm not sure if Daisy was ever an Avenger in the comics, but she definitely was Director of SHIELD for a while.

Thadman

Whether they find Fitz out in space, it doesn't matter to Deke's existence 'cause the timeline Deke was born into doesn't exist anymore. So, Deke either disappeared, 'cause his timeline no longer exists, or he is out roaming around seeing the world 'cause the multi-universe theory he was talking about exists. Deke's tool was gone either 'cause he doesn't exist or 'cause he took it with him. We'll see next season. :-D

Thadman

The part that always gets me most is seeing the smile fall from Jemma's face.

Thadman

Most likely that last question will never be answered. I wonder that, too. I think it's one of those use your imagination things. In theory every possibility happened. We only saw one iteration through the loop (albeit out of order due to time jumping.) Robin has seen more than one iteration, though. She can recognize changes and even hinted at seeing outcomes of decisions: "If I don't then this will be the last time I see you." I guess she's the only one that really knows how it went all of the other times. Sorry if that didn't make sense. I got distracted and forgot what I was writing mid post.

Rob Flynn

Technically in the other loops that was the last time Coulson and Daisy seen each other when Daisy left the Quinjet screaming at him. Coulson died knowing he sent the only daughter he ever had to die. Very sad. The only thing that’s a grey area for me, and I’m sure the writers did this on purpose, is did he actually take the serum in the other loops or did he do the same thing and give it to Daisy and she either didn’t notice it or she thought she could handle Talbot without it and died wanting to still give the serum to him.

Jonathan Jones

That city that Talbot just crashed into was Chicago. I live in Chicago and I was like, "OOOH! CHICAGO!" BAM! "HEY, TALBOT!" xD

Thadman

Juli... I think your heart is broken

newfolder

All roads lead to this!!!!! Congrats to getting to the end of the season in tact!!! Now onto season 6 and 7 and all the bloopers and cast interviews and deleted scenes!!!!!!

Artemis9991

Heh, the fact that AoS premieres SO far away from the end of the previous season didn't seem to bother most of the fandom 'cause none of us were sure it was even gonna get picked up so it was very quick reaction of "WHAT?? Well, at least it's back...and it does make sense that they want to pick it up after Avenger 4 and the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, so I'm good with it."

Thadman

...and so FAST. Juli was able to very quickly analyze the episodes in a very encompassing way RIGHT after she stopped the video that most people take multiple viewings or at least some time before they get that perspective. It was truly rewarding to watch.

Thadman

Hey Juli, i'm just about to watch this reaction and i can't wait for it so excited am i, but i've got to say THANK YOU for this amazing reaction series. This has been the best reaction series i've ever followed and it got me as excited as an airing of an actual tv series! I love your passion for this show, the love for the characters (excuse me, i meant your children of course) you show, the crazy (and strangely accurate) theories you have almost every episode, the well thought reasoning behind all your opinions on the show and above all the incredible commitment you show for your fans and the fans of AoS.

Sascha Koch

and then... season 7 out of no where lol

Rob Flynn

I'm about to press play and I know I'm gonna cry when you cry lol

Rob Flynn

Hell, I'm about to cry at this momentous occasion and I haven't even watched this yet. It'd be ironic if I did and then Juli didn't while watching it. xD

Thadman

I love that if you go back and look at episode 5x01, it starts with Enoch, and he has Robin's drawings. One of the first shots of the season is a drawing by Robin of Philinda on the beach, holding hands with the Zephyr in the air above them. I only noticed this watching your reactions. I love it!

Aaron Thorpe

I'm at work till 11 so I have to wait till then to watch but I can already tell I'm not ready.

Macy

Many of your questions are exactly our questions at this point. Most believe that the SNAP took place just after we see the Zephyr fly off.

Calculatus Eliminatus

Phil and Melinda.. Parasailing.. Just sayin.

Calculatus Eliminatus

oh i've been waiting for this one nervously every video i'm like "THIS POOR GIRL HAS NO IDEA WHAT'S COMING" i have a lot of controversial opinions about this finale so i'm gonna keep them to myself and just say i'm looking forward to your reactions to cast interviews and bloopers! this cast makes you fall even more in love with this show than you thought possible. they're the best cast of any show i've ever watched tbh. and the show wasn't renewed until after they wrapped this season so they wrote the finale as if it was their series finale (also have controversial opinions on this lol). they found out they were renewed i think just a few days before this aired. abc is notorious for making us suffer which is why we were so (pleasantly) surprised to get the s7 renewal so early.

Linsey Morris

Wow. She was so eager to watch this one that she didn't wait for her hair to dry. :) Love ya Juli.

Alvin Cura

Oh, I hope we get to watch her re-watch it. And I hope she loves the show enough to take recommendations for clips/panels/other media regarding the show.

Alvin Cura

Have to do it. First.. of the last.. (at least for awhile)
