One of my favourites as books and as a show. The chemistry and acting of the cast is incredibly good and amazing. Also I'm a huge Scotland fan and visit this beautiful country this year for the third time. So of course there is the great scereny as well. But also the writing is superb, the cinematography. I love Ronald D. Moore who has also done Battlestar Gallactica one of my most beloved shows ever!!! And of course the music in Outlander is superb. i would be very happy to see you react to this show. Don't think you would regeret it. ♥

(sorry in advance for this long text lol)
Idk why, but I’ve kind of avoided the show on Netflix for quite a while as “not my sort of thing”, and I didn’t really think it was at all that good. Then last Friday I got bored, and I gave it a try. Episode one was OK, two reasonable. Then I got hooked. Five days later I was done watching all 4 seasons, (aka I just binged the whole show lol).
One of the reasons why I love this show (NO SPOILERS), is because of its landscape/scenery (aka the beauty of Scotland). The cinematography is just amazing. The soundtrack is beyond incredible, and the costumes are just phenomenal. Then there’s also the beautiful love story, which is probably one of my favorite TV love stories of all time, plus the two actors have some of the best stage chemistry ever!
Then there’s also the fantastical twist on history, that sticks to the facts. Yes, there are fantasy elements of Outlander, and there is time travel, and yes, there’s a super sexy love story at the core of the show, but Outlander values its history and detail above most other things. While the characters may be fictional, some of the plot lines in the series are based on real events and sometimes refer to real people throughout history. The three central characters of Outlander all deliver staggeringly convincing performances. They interact wonderfully, and portray the brutal realities of the eras they occupy. The villainy (of a certain character) is extreme, sadistic and horrifying, and yet also never merely done for the sake of shock.
Its not all about sex and love story… things get rather grim in Outlander. The 17th century was a dangerous time to be alive, after all with people getting tortured and killed without a moment’s thought, because the fate of nation could rest upon it. There's a reason the Game of Thrones comparison sticks. Outlander is not for the faint of heart, as it's packed with aggro, vengeful dudes—and women—who live and die by the sword. And the gun. And a whip or two. You get the (bloody) picture. So, expect some brutal and eye-watering moments that will prove to be hard-going. Its not gratuitous, but simply a reflection of the era in which this period piece is set.
Anyone who watched through to the end of Season 1 can attest that this show goes to some dark, dark places. But Outlander does more than offer an examination into the darker parts of humanity; its unflinching look into the darkness is what helps elevate what otherwise could be less impactful storylines and plot twists. More importantly, Outlander carries the fallout of that darkness with it. The horrifying events that took place during the first season continue to impact the characters involved in major ways moving forward, which helps validate having the events happen in the first place and also allows them to carry a lot of weight.
Do you think time travel is a lame trope not worth your precious viewing time? Think again. Not only does Claire know the fate of the Highlanders, but she's endowed with a wealth of information that works both in her favor—and against it. Watching her use her modern-day knowledge as a survival tool is one of the most exhilarating parts of the show, and will leave your finger nails whittled down into tiny stubs.
Also, Outlander has malleable opening credits lol. Not many shows bother to give you clues as to what you can expect from the season (or specific episodes) by switching up the opening credits sequence, but Outlander is not your standard TV show. The opening credits of the drama have always shown a variety of scenes from the current season, with just enough information in each of them that, as the season moves along, you can see what events in the show those scenes were pulled from. And, while the scenes featured change a bit every season (and during the season) to reflect the new plotlines in the drama, something Outlander does that literally no other show does is change the opening theme song.
Anyway, thank you for coming to this rant lol. Hope you’ll keep reacting to this show. You won’t regret it.
