The show never directly said that the mom was mentally ill, it was more Steve who is skeptic of ghost who claimed that the mom was mentally ill, while the dad claims that the house made the mom the way she is, and it’s up to us the audience to determine who is right and if we are more skeptic like Steve and assume it was all mental, or be more believing like the dad and thinking that the mom was possessed or haunted by the house

Watching these I think it's funny because I think the anticipation is scaring you more than the actual show. This show is scary, especially since you're still learning the characters, but it's really emotional once you get invested in the characters. You start to forget that it's a horror show and it's more about the characters. 5 i think is the one that gets to most people and 6 is when the scary vs emotional scale really starts to tip.

So the first few episodes kind of run in parallel, they are showing the same few days over and over (both in the present, and in the past) from different kids perspectives, in order of age..... you should really watch it with the lights off, its easier to see the things they hide in the shadows LOL The other nice thing about this show is the transitions from one timeframe to another... in this episode i just noticed she grabbed the milk in the present, and it switched to her holding the milk in the past. They do those types of transitions all over the place.

It might be the most depressing season of a show I've watched since S4 of Shameless lol. But it's also terrifying from start to finish. Episodes 5 and 6 are going to kill you!
