Marcel being the thing that kills the mikaelsons in the prophecy has actually been foreshadowed at the very start of the season. When they first showed the "beast" in the visions for the prophecy, the beast actually looks like Marcel. And throughout the series, he's been friend, family & foe - all 3 parts of the prophecy. So the signs have been there since the beginning, but no one pieced it together until this episode
