I will try to summarize what happened. Oliver and Dinah Laurel Queen were supposed to be the original endgame because the comics (even though their relationship is so toxic, Oliver cheated on her multiples times and they divorced at the end. plus there are many comic versions, even the ones where they don't know each others. Oliver in the comics is a very different character idk how someone can like him. The Arrow version is 10000 times better). in the first season, of course they wanted to develop their story but the critic answers were so bad. there were so many articles were they said Stephen and Katie had zero chemistry and Oliver and Laurel relationship was so toxic. on the other hand, Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity) was supposed to be in only one episode. Felcity Smoak isn't a comic green arrow character. but the writers and the producers saw some chemistry between her and Stephen when they filmed their scene in 1x03 so they wanted her back. Stephen himself went to the producers saying "this girl is fantastic". (this is an interview just after season 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MImkNo73o-o). many people started to ship Oliver and Felicity since they saw their first scene and Stephen was always on board of that ship (they called the captain for that reason). And the producers basically admitted their mistake bc they didn’t do any chemistry test between Stephen and Katie (but for me wasn't just that the problem. the fact that they start the series saying Oliver cheated on her with her sister. it was a no for me since then), when they cast Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. after season 1 they never wanted to go back to Oliver and Laurel relationship as love couple (the showrunners literally said that) so they started to develop Oliver and Felicity's one and they gave a definitive closure to Oliver and Laurel. but some comic stans were so blind and they thought it was just a platonic relationship. after season 2 it was pretty clear that they chose Felicity as Oliver's endgame. during SDCC even Stephen said that Felicity was the woman for Oliver and he knew since the beginning of season 2. comic stan started to hate Felicity since then bc she ruined (according to them) their fav comic couple. plus, every time Oliver does a stupid thing and Felicity rightfully calls him out, they see Felicity as the evil one (especially in season 4) -.-. the problem with Laurel, instead, is the actress. at least for me. bc i liked Laurel but i don't think she ever understood her character. she just wanted to be the main love interest. like during cons she asked her fans to be more vocal for having more Lauriver scenes (when the direction of the show was already another one), she was the one who wanted the Felicity-Laurel-Oliver love triangle (again, when the direction of the show was pretty clear and luckily we never saw that triangle), she knew there was this stupid shipwar and she just constantly fed it. she even said once "that bitch stole my man" during a con talking about Felicity. she also admitted she always read only her lines so she really didn't know what was going on on the show. when she realized that Olicity was here to stay then she started to said she was glad that she wasn't just a love interest (but basically she was just being shady towards Felicity, who by the way was always more than the LI). so most of the Olicity fans don't like laurel for that reason. But personally i try to separate the actress from the character bc i like Laurel development on the show. there are even more things to say but i don't want to spoil anything to you

love this!! Juli you’re amazing :) also love that you’re not engaging in any shipwars. I always loved Laurel and shipped Oliver with Felicity. 🥰 For some weird reason people think that’s mutually exclusive 🙄

The Oliver ship war originates because Laurel Lance is canonically married to Oliver in the comics. People want to see the comics being translated to the show. Oliver and Laurel go way back to being one of the original ships alongside Lois and Clark, Barry and Iris, etc. They are also one of the first ships to be canonically married besides Lois and Clark. There is a lot of history behind the ship which is why people and myself are so supportive of Lauriver. Olicity was hated for 5 seasons straight. A lot of people don't like Felicity and find her to be rather annoying especially during Season 4 which is also why Season 4 is said to be the worst season of the show. Even the show writers didn't seem to know where to go until they decided to make a final and fatal decision. I was one of those people who didn't like Olicity at first, but I have come to accept them as the endgame couple, I still wished Laurel and Oliver would have had a better chance, but I also understand why the writers did ultimately choose Felicity.

There isn’t a ship war between felicity/Oliver/laurel on the show, but there is one in the fandom because people who ship Laurel and Oliver are mostly comic stans who aren’t happy that the show isn’t following the comics and they don’t like olicity or felicity and vice versa olicity stans don’t really like laurel or laurel stans or Oliver/laurel and their shippers. And then there are those of us who ship olicity yet still love laurel, but people seriously make ship wars out of anything 🙄
