I liked Richard Harris better. Michael Gambon was brilliant, but Richard Harris' version of Dumbledore was special. I liked his calmness and gentleness.

Heh, I was a grown-ass man when I read the books and then the movies started and I was watching them. I'd always be snapping at people, "IT'S NOT JUST FOR KIDS!" ;-D

I thought they'd explained that in subsequent movies, but perhaps not 'cause I do remember being disappointed by some things left out of this. It's just been so long that I didn't remember the specifics of what bothered me. ;-) I knew it had something to do with the womping willow.

Oh, I don't know why but I doesn't matter how many times I watch HP movies I always cry in all of them after the third. I mean, Harry never knew his parents, he has being raised by awful people, a dark wizard want him dead and hurt the people around him, and still he is a good guy, after all he has been through. So it's makes me cry every time because the people who don't deserve it always suffer somehow. He's so strong. The fourth will be hard compare to the first one, particularly the fifth and those who follow.

Hey just wanted to give you a bit of facts that I know the movies don't tell you. The maps creators are actually Harry's dad and friends to match their animagus forms. Padfoot is Sirius since he is a dog, Wormtail is Peter being a rat, then Prongs is James who was a stag which also is Harry's patronus. Then finally Moony is Remus for being a werewolf.

I totally forgot to say how much I love John Williams' score for this movie, more than the previous two. Aunt Marge's Waltz and Buckbeak's Flight are wonderful without the context of the movie.

It's unfortunate that for the sake of brevity they didn't include all this backstory somehow. It's just left a mystery as to who created the map and what's up with the Shrieking Shack.

Also, I love the way you look at the story, most of us were children when we watched the movies and read the books. For example, I was 9 when I watched the 3rd movie for the first time, and there are several things I do not noticed the first time I watched, I literally grew up reading the books, so a lot of things I only understood when Harry understood too. Several things that you notice at first, such as the depth and emotion of the story, I personally only noticed when watching or reading the book for the 2nd or 3rd time. I like to see your perspective watching for the first time

a little more history that is explained in the books: All 4 were best friends at Hogwarts, they were known as the Marauders and they created the map (as explained above), all 3 animagus (Peter, James and Sirius) have a reason, When Remus became a Werewolf during school time, the other 3 became animagus to help Lupin. Peter became a rat to climb the tree and push a button that is hidden in the trunk to make the tree immovable, then they take Lupin to "The Shrieking Shack" during the full moon, James transformed himself into a Stag and Sirius into a dog to contain Lupin inside the Cabin.

Loved it :) Harry & Sirius are my favorite characters <3 I hope you'll get a chance to read the books once you're done with the movies. They're SO MUCH better. So many more interesting information, characters, interactions. But I do enjoy the movies. Always glad to watch them again.

Fun fact about the Marauder's Map that isn't explained in the movie but is explained in the book: Lupin knows how the map works because he helped make it. The four nicknames on the map are:
Moony = Remus Lupiin (werewolf)
Wormtail = Peter Pettigrew (animagus who became a rat)
Padfoot = Sirius Black (animagus who became a dog)
Prongs = James Potter (animagus who became a stag)

Black, Lupin, Pettigrew, and James Potter created the Marauder's Map when they were at Hogwarts. In the movie they describe them as Mr. Mooney (Lupin) , Wormtail (Pettigrew), Padfoot (Black), and Prongs (Potter)
That's how Lupin knows all about it straight away.

This is my favorite of all the Potter films, even though it's the loosest adaptation from the book. But Alfonso Cuaron was the best director to be involved in the series. It's too bad he only directed this one.

Dumbledore was recast because Richard Harris had Hodgkin's and passed away. Harris was quite ill while they were filming Chamber of Secrets. I personally like Michael Gambon better, but Harris did leave behind an amazing acting career.

Dumbledore was recasted as the previous actor was having heart problems and couldn't resume the role for the other movies.

Can I also say, after watching Chamber of Secrets again with you, I have a bit more of a newfound appreciation for it. It's still a little bit for young kids and a bit sickly-sweet, but it is a lovely movie and there is lots of great world building and attention to detail. So thank you for that, too!!
