But does Ric even know about the deal? Outside of what Damon alleges just seconds before the attack?

I completely agree. I'm just saying it seems like an unwise decision on his part, as technically speaking, if Damon were out of the picture, wouldn't the deal that saved Ric's daughters be null? Cade requires two supernatural beings... That's the part I think seems reckless.

Ric has already lost his wife to Damon and now he nearly lost his kids.. I can see where Ric is coming from, it’s anger and fear. If Damon was acting like himself, I think Ric would have hesitated. But after killing Tyler and just being a menace... I can see it. Besides, Damon has killed Ric for far less.

Killing Damon seemed really stupid on Alaric's part. As I understand the situation, Damon and Stefan have "sold their souls," and Cade requires two supernatural souls... Therefore, killing Damon is reckless as it nullifies the deal that just saved his kids and puts them back in danger...

I think that the writers were trying to seemingly put Damon and Stefan in the same places they were in S1 - Damon on the outs from everyone and seemingly evil, Stefan as the heroic one trying to save all of them - to see what might have changed. this whole arc will become more and more interesting trust me...
as to Alaric killing Damon: I think his kids being kidnapped drove him over the edge and he needs to put the blame somewhere and Damon is just an easy target.

Yes!!! That's absolutely true! He did manage to save the girls and Alaric thanks him by killing him? That really sucks!

I remember when I first saw this episode back when it aired. The ending with Alaric and Matt killing Damon. I was like WTF. I mean Damon has done a lot of horrible things this season but the one thing he was not responsible for was kidnapping the twins. And I was furious with Alaric taking it out on Damon. At this point the writers totally killed the Dalaric friendship. If we are judging Damon on killing people then everyone on the show should be dead. Yes, Stefan sacrificed his freedom for Caroline and her children but he never would have thought of that option if not for Damon. So basically Damon came up with a way to save himself and Alaric and Caroline's children and he gets killed at the end. I'm sorry but I understand a lot of Damon's actions. He has lost everything just about except for Stefan and I cant blame him for giving up when everything goes to shit for him, it is what he does.

Juli, in Damon’s defense at this point. Without humanity, he has managed to save his best friend Enzo and Caroline’s kids. And in the end.. who did he want by his side? His brother. I can see some of your disappointment but I actually find it interesting to see how the worst of Damon still manages to get the job done, no matter what.

It´s a quote by Caroline in 1x17. She drives somewhere and gets stuck in a thunderstorm. Because she doesn´t know where she is and the gps isn´t working she calls Matt and says she´s "detoured on some random backwards path to hell". It´s before she finds Vicki´s body

Really enjoyed this reaction Juli! Also something very important to keep in mind- before they aired the final episode they made it a 2 hour special by airing The Vampire Diaries: Forever Yours which was a 1 hour special sort of tieng together the entire series and giving the cast an interview and it is a MUST WATCH in my opinion and it would be great if you would react to that because it does a great job giving you that nostalgic feeling of TVD and is a great way to say goodbye to the show!
