I’m so happy you finally watched this movie! And I’m so glad I watched your reaction to Twister all those months ago so when I noticed that you didn’t recognize Cary Elwes in that I drew the conclusion that you had never seen this movie, because if you had you definitely would have remembered him. This movie is unforgettable. It has so many great characters, and so much humor and quotable lines it would be “inconceivable” for you to forget it if you had seen it before, especially if you had grown up watching it many times and quoted it with your siblings as I did. My youngest brother is so dramatic he would act out entire scenes from it and it always cracked me up. I really needed something nostalgic and lighthearted like this movie. And you know I love fantasy. Kind of a funny coincidence that this movie and the other one I sponsored (Fried Green Tomatoes) were both stories within stories. Though the other one was a old woman telling a story from her memories, and this was an old man telling a fictional fairy tale to his grandson. Both were done really well I think, but this movie is a huge part of pop culture. I was kind of shocked you didn’t recognize more things from it that have been reference in other movies and shows and used in internet memes. Really glad you loved it so much though. I hope I can sponsor another one of my favorite movie with you again sometime.

Aw, poor Andre. That's really sad. I loved him as sweet Fezzik and his friendship with Iñigo.

Andre Roussimoff, known as Andre the Giant, is a legend in pro wrestling. He was, for a long time, the biggest (pardon the expression) pro wrestler in the world. Not just in terms of size but in terms of popularity. (darn early enter) Andre was also famous for another reason.
He was probably the greatest drunk that ever lived. The condition that caused him to become so big also caused him a lot of pain. Which wasn't helped by being a pro wrestler, a business where the matches are predetermined, but the toll on your body is very real. Robin Wright has talked about how Andre was in so much pain they had to work around the scenes where he picked her up, he was hurting so much he could barely move, much less lift her. Drugs didn't help at his weight so he drank. Constantly. After all, when he was young boy doctors had told him he wouldn't live to see his 50th birthday. People have seen him consume 126 beers in one evening and that might have been a light night for him.
Naturally his co-stars in The Princess Bride decided they had to drink with Andre, which, of course, he paid for. Andre always picked up the check. After a couple of disastrous evenings the producers eventually had to ban anyone from drinking with Andre because they would be so hungover the next morning they could barely move. Andre, naturally, was never hungover.
He died in his sleep a day or two after his father's funereal at the age of 46. He never did make his 50th birthday.

I love this classic so much!!! It's one of my favorite movies of all time because it has everything you could ever want in a movie and story. Just like the Grandfather said, it's got adventure, fantasy, swordfighting, daring escapes, pirates, revenge, true love, etc... It's so amazingly beautiful and so much fun. It's deliciously cheesy too, which is why people love to quote this movie today so much, and why it's a classic everyone loves.
My favorite characters are Westley played by Carey Elwes, Inigo Montoya played by Mandy Patinkin, the Grandfather played by Peter Falk, and Miracle Max played by Billy Crystal. However, I love Princess Buttercup played by Robin Wright, Fezzik played by Andre the Giant, and Vizzini played by Wallace Shawn too. Such brilliant and fun characters you love to laugh for.
As for my favorite scenes... First, I love the scene when Inigo and Fezzig bring Westley to Miracle Max for a miracle to revive Westley. Miracle Max and Valerie are hilarious and I laugh so hard at this scene every time. And second, I love the whole swordfight scene between Westley and Inigo on the Cliffs of Insanity. I agree with you that this fight is so well coregraphed. Third... the moment Inigo gets his revenge on the man who murdered his father, Count Rugen is phenomenal! Oh... and the Impressive Clergyman who marries Buttercup to Prince Humperdinck is hilarious as well. And just seeing everyone get their happy ending as they ride off together and then seeing Westley and Buttercup finally kiss in the end... so beautiful. So brilliant!
I love Westley's and Buttercup's love story. I love Inigo's and Fezzik's friendship, and I love the Grandfather's and Grandson's moments together too. What a sensational movie!!!
Thank you so much for your reaction to this movie, Juli. I am so happy you loved it so much. I really enjoyed watching it again as you watched it for the first time and I'm so happy you loved it too. I look forward to many more movie reactions from you. Until next time, my friend...

Maybe you've seen Mandy Patinkin in Criminal Minds or in Dead Like Me. Iñigo Montoya is so cool. I had a huge crush on Cary Elwes as a kid, especially in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, he is actually still my favorite Robin Hood (Edited to add: I haven't had a crush in a guy since Joshua Jackson in Dawson's Creek when I was 13, so I think they must be special---- nah, I'm lying. I may have a crush on Henry Cavill). I watched this film as a kid and barely remembered it. It was nice to see it again with you. Nice pick Eri.
