2020-11-22 02:26:01 +0000 UTCThe way I think what happened to Becca and how Homelander sees it is that he doesn't believe it was rape because she must have felt shocked and threatened by him so she probably didn't put up mucho of a fight out of fear and he interpreted that as consent. It’s just like Homelander keeps complaining about people lying to him but it's really that everyone is so terrified of him that nobody dares to contradict him and he sees that as them willingly making the choices they make. Power is strange like that. Something that happened to me a few years ago was that I sudddendly had to move to a different state due to a work promotion and I became a boss to many people. In my interactions with them they kept trying to please me all the time, even in small talk about non related work stuff. That was so strange and it made me feel so lonely, because I spent most of my day in the office and our interactions there didn’t feel real since they were just telling me what I wanted to hear all the time. It made adapting to the work harder because they would agree with me in everything and hid stuff they believed I wouldn’t approve which made me doubt their intentions. Even my own words and actions with them made me uneasy since their boundaries were not clearly set and I kept fearing I would overstep them unknowingly. And here’s the thing, how can you learn what people’s limits are when they feel like they aren’t allowed to say “no”? I had to find a way to balance mantaining my authority while making people feel safe enough to express their own input. But Homelander lacks empathy, he doesn’t understand human relationships and interactions because he never has had a normal one. He wasn’t nurtured so instead he takes everything just because he can but it’s never satisfying because nothing is given to him willingly so it never feels his. It’s fake, just like Doppengagler’s illusions. Anyway, felt so sorry for everybody. I liked the theme of this episode and the structure reminded me of When Harry Met Sally which I think was the point. And I love Almond Joy. Chocolate, coconut and almond? Awesome.
