Yay! I'm so glad you reacted to this movie!
The actresses who play Alyssa (Ariana DeBose, who was a background dancer in Hamilton) and Emma (Jo Ellen Pellman) are actually gay in real life.
There was some controversy when casting James Cordon as Barry because it is a very flamboyant character for a straight man to play, but I thought he did a great job.
One of my biggest problems with the movie is that they cut down some of Emma and Alyssa's duets. I think you should also react to the Broadway versions of 'You Happened' and 'Dance With You' as they were both cut shorter in the movie (So was the song at the truck rally but I actually liked that change).
Also the Broadway show performed on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and they did the Alyssa/Emma kiss which was the first same sex kiss in the parade's history. there was backlash from a Twitter group saying children lost their innocence because they just saw two girls kissing on national TV. That performance, and the show in general, was such a conversation started for many queer people.
All and all, The Prom is one of my favorite musicals and I am so happy Ryan Murphy made it into a film and that you reacted to it!

omg if you hate Kerry's character here, you'd LOVE her in 'Little Fires Everywhere' it's a mini series that came out earlier this year and let's just say her character is VERY different from this one... I would actually sponsor(?) that show I think
