PRODUCE 48 EPISODE 2 REACTION | I'M CRYING

Reflecting back after years let me see things I really didn't when the show was airing. Especially when Yuri's comment was for herself and Mnet shamelessly put it on Sakura's performance.... Also, glad to see Dayeon in this.

God, I hate that Mnet made everyone that watched this forget Sato's B and Miyu's A.....

Blair (Rinzler)

- The “host”/representative is Lee Seunggi, dunno if you know much about him but he’s a pretty big soloist, he actually recently made a comeback for the first time in a while since he’s mostly been doing variety stuff lately. He also briefly mentioned BoA who was the Season 2 representative. You don’t see much of him in the first two episodes but he plays a bigger role later on when we get to the other evaluations. He’s a pretty cool dude and I think he’s also Cobra’s PD48 bias lol. - I hoped the CNC babies would debut together since the 5 of them transferred to the same label after PD48 but their debut didn’t go through. Kim Yubin recently debuted in Bling Bling, Yujeong (the only C between them) is a Cube trainee rn and the other three’s whereabouts are currently unknown. - Lee Haeun is still an MNH trainee. MNH debuted the girlgroup Bvndit but the concept was a bit too mature for her so she’s probably debuting in the future in MNH’s next girlgroup. She’s an 04 liner so she still got plenty of time. Hwang Soyeon (the Sunmi lookalike in A) also joined MNH after PD48. - Like I also said the previous time, the editing put these performances in non-chronological order. Like Eunbi and Chaeyeon were one of the first shown but here you can see that they were actually around the break. And they keep saying that no Japanese got an A yet which is true chronologically but due to the editing, Takeuchi Miyu was already shown in Ep.1 and she got an A. Kinda feel bad for Miyu here cause a lot of people forget she got an A due to the editing. Saho also already got a B in Ep.1. - Jurina was already active as an idol for 10 years but she’s actually only 21 during PD48. You saw that she won the 2018 AKB general elections which was actually held on the day after the first episode of PD48 aired (like I said, all of this was recorded a month before airing). Usually, Ep.2 of Produce starts with all the contestants watching Ep.1 which was not possible this time since the Japanese trainees had to be in Japan for the Senbatsu. So that’s why they made Seunggi watch Ep.1. Jurina and Sakura were strong rivals in the weeks leading up to that Senbatsu and that’s probably also why Mnet tried to go with the Jurina vs Sakura cliff hanger in Episode 1. Many people actually thought Sakura was the favourite so her coming third (not even second) was actually a big surprise and seeing that clip they showed, a big disappointment to Sakura herself. Something else also happened at the Senbatsu but more about that in a later episode. - Gyuri is the only contestant in PD48 who’s active in a kpop group at the same time but it’s actually not that weird. All the other seasons have multiple contestants like that. Reason to participate is usually either personal growth or trying to promote/revive their group. - The Stone Music / Idol School contestants performed “Chewing Gum” by NCT Dream which was actually originally written for Red Velvet. That’s probably why this girlgroup version fits so well. - I always kinda feel weird thinking about the fact that Yuri could’ve been in Fromis_9 instead of IZ*ONE. Her ranking in the first few episodes of Idol School was even above the debut cut-off. Another fun fact: the last episode of Idol School (where Yuri got eliminated) aired on 29th september 2017. 29th september is also Yena’s birthday, truly soulmates. #yulyenisntsinking - AKB48 Juri is indeed Rocket Punch Juri. It’s crazy that she was already that popular in Japan but still decided to go into Kpop as a rookie. Not that surprising tho since she is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) Kpop fan out of all the Japanese contestants. - There is no footage of Nako’s company audition because it was censored due to… yeah… So she and her friend Miku got an automatic F. They probably would’ve gotten higher if they performed something else - Kim Choyeon (fiery eyes from A Team Ent.) is still in A Team and is supposed to debut next year together with Son Eunchae (the one that danced with Hitomi in C class) - Go Yujin left Blockberry and briefly went to 8D Creative (Hyewon’s company). Yoo Minyoung (Celeb Five girl in A Class) also went to 8D Creative so it was rumoured that they would debut with Hyewon after y’know… But Go Yujin left 8D Creative this year and decided to become a streamer instead of an idol.

Essay #2 Updated spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16T3Atpp52N4YFPZH1arjduNwKgf5-1_NtGRCebdkDhc/edit?usp=sharing, it includes the initial grades, ep.2 rankings (bit more clear than the one they show at the end) and the unedited full versions of all company auditions (including Hitomi’s one which wasn’t really shown and AleXa who wasn’t shown at all) General remark: As you’ve noticed, some people (like AleXa, Secret Number Jinny and Purple Kiss Jieun) really fly under the radar and I guess that’s one of the downsides of having this many contestants. Mnet wants to make the most entertaining show, not the fairest show, so if the producers don’t think you’re interesting enough, you don’t get screentime and that makes it almost impossible to do well. Even some contestants in A receive this fate (example: Kim Dahye is in A right now and you probably don’t remember her). Screentime for each trainee fluctuates a bit throughout the show. As you noticed, this episode we don’t really see much of Wonyoung (and also Chaewon) and Chaeyeon was sick so we don’t see her during the lessons. But all the IZ*ONE members get to shine during PD48.

Well, time for TMI :) Iz*one was one of the first Groups i got into while discovering Kpop. It all started when i saw Chaeyeon Random Dance cover on Idol room (well both of them) in a Youtube Suggestion. Since then i probably binged Most of their content, but never took the time to sit and watch PD48 full episodes (i've seen most of the "meme" and "emotional" clips though). So it's really a pleasure to watch the whole things with you. I won't lie, I suscribed to the patreon only as soon as you announced the first episode :) and i'm not regreting it ! (Chu S01 was a blast) Thanks you for all of this and i'm probably gonna stay a little while as i can't wait to see your reactions to queendom !! (are we having only Idle and Mamamoo stages, or the fulls show ? I really hope you're gonna watch the other groups (yup, even AOA...) because the whole thing was incredible and well ... Queendom without the Oh My girl performances is not really Queendom ! Now waiting patiently for PD48 ep 3 ;) Take your time and enjoy the journey as much as we do
