The Magicians 1x03 FULL REACTION

Comments

One thing you may be missing about Quentin and Julia exchange (and you're right that he was awful to her & you saying he was airing his insecurities) is that afterwards in the house, he realizes this & said that she was right. We saw that Quentin from the get-go is a BUNDLE of insecurities stemming from years. He was on medication & depressed & had committed himself. Point is, like I said before, they all can be horrible to one another and others, but do they realize that and change?

They may be able to separate the Niffin from the wood of the box, but the Niffin is not Charlie. Charlie is gone. Alice was about to kill herself trying to get him back.

At some point in this show, everyone is an asshole. That's why I ended up really appreciating how the characters are well-written and human. Sometimes they say terrible things to each other and DO terrible things, but give them all time. They do mean well & they do learn from their mistakes. I've really disliked all of them at different points, but really appreciate them and do understand the points of views they are coming from, even if I disagree with them. They slightly hinted at it in the 2nd ep when the Specialist said that Quentin (along with everyone else) doesn't have a destiny to be some grand hero or anything. They are telling the audience that he ISN'T the hero (even though we focus on him) & that no one is really destined to be. To make things worse or better is due to personal choices and they ALL make mistakes.

You're not alone with finding Quentin annoying! I cannot stand him and Julia becomes my favorite character from episode 1 so seeing him treat her that way just fuels my annoyance towards him lol. If I'm being honest I only kept watching past the first episode because I was so intrigued by Julia's story.

No, he is not horrible for not asking but he is a terrible friend for not putting himself in her shoes and make her understand that his place on the academy is very delicated as well and he also truly wants this, but no, he says all those mean things to her acting as if he always wanted to be better than her and now that he can he wants to rub it in her face. They are best friend, you don't do that to someone you claim you love. He is just salty bc he now has something she wants and he gets to brag about it

He was awful to Julia but I don't think he was horrible for not asking the school again. It would be like a friend applying for a job where you work, get rejected, and then asking the friend to ask the boss again. The boss already said no. He JUST got in. I don't blame him for not wanting to go be like hey you guys should let my friend in. Also he just saved alice life I think. Don't think he's bad for that either.
