The comment above was basically everything I wanted to point out. Although I wanna add this. While yes, the Wives of the commanders are also oppressed, a lot of them are also complicit in the actions of this society, and treat handmaids like shit. This episode also highlighted the solidarity between handmaids, how they all came together to comfort Janine. Although this next point may be up for debate, the churches being demolished shows how hypocritical Gilead is. They claim that they do everything in the name of God, just as long as it’s their way. They want to erase anything that has any value to the past. They want people to forget everything before and only believe that Gilead is the only true path.

2019-12-31 12:22:38 +0000 UTCJune not eating the cookie and leaving it there was an example of a small victory/act of rebellion which you'll see a lot of from handmaids. There are men who are also sterile but in this society it's never the man's fault therefore that isn't acknowledged and the women will always be blamed if she's not pregnant. Women aren't allowed to read or write so the Scrabble game in the commander's office was very taboo. After giving birth handmaids stay for a few months to nurse and then they move on to a new home. I'm so excited you're watching this show and I can't wait for the next episode, you get to learn more about Serena (Yvonne) it's a good one!
