This is the problem with Leyton. As much as they're cute when they're together they make rash decisions and they don't communicate. In some ways saying goodbye was mean but I also get that if they'd have communicated over time it would be ok for him to say "I'm at this place in my life and I want to be with someone who's in the same place and ready for the life I need now".

So I kind of understand Lucas breaking up with Peyton. He shouldn't have kissed Brooke of course, but it's ok after a few years being together long distance for him to want to get married and to say if she's not ready for that he wants to be with someone who is at the same place in their life that he is. They were in different places in their lives and he moved on with Lindsey and fell in love. He didn't do anything wrong in doing that. Not everyone ends up with their high school love.

fuck lucas ... all my homies hate lucas.
i’ve always had a dislike for lucas since the first season but this season really cements how terrible he is to everyone (even peyton) which before i used to think he was terrible to everyone BUT peyton. she deserved better but sadly she loves him.

This episode highlights why I could never get into Leyton. It seems Lucas tends to lick his wounds and use the closest woman available when Leyton is not working out: usually because they are not going at the same pace and Lucas can't slow down and go at Peyton's (at least in present time he isn't using her best friend, sad that he tried again in the past).

I agree with you in some respects, first off yes i don't think it was a thing of putting himself before Peyton's career as many people read it, in my opinion anyway it was more of like let's be together I don't care about anything else i'll drop my job come to LA if I have to I don't care....Peyton was more clear headed, and yes arguably not handling it well will happen for a guy who proposes, but in the long run not speaking to that person again and walking out on them forever because of it is really childish, more than that it's really ridiculous when you think of it to say I feel insecure about our relationship, I don't know how we are going to be in a year's time, and let's get married, saying those two things at once is really really dumb lmao, like I don't hate lucas, I like seeing his flaws but it's althemore justified to call him out on his mistakes I feel...
Lucas
2020-06-11 02:43:19 +0000 UTC
omg I agree !! I should probably clarify: I don't hate Lucas, I hate how Lucas acts towards the women he is dating. I think he's a great brother, a great friend and a great uncle. But what he has put literally every woman he ever dated through is just not cool at all. And yes we look more closely towards someone who's supposed to be the "good lead character", but at least the others learn from their mistakes. Look at Nathan, Brooke, Peyton, Haley - they've grown and evolved beyond their mistakes. Lucas did the same thing that he does to Peyton/Lindsay in S5 to Brooke/Peyton in S1.

It's not that I don't understand where he was coming from, it's just the way he reacted to Peyton's answer that was really mean. Yes, he can be hurt. But he immediately broke up with her and left in the middle of the night and didn't answer her calls. That was just uncalled for. He acted as if Peyton was the bad guy in the situation. He can be hurt ofc, but just vanishing and not talking anymore and just ending all of it over her saying "I don't wanna get married right now bc I'm 19 and it wouldn't work logistically right now bc of our careers" is just mean.

That’s always the one disadvantage any lead from most shows always have. Whenever flaws are put upon them it sticks out more and people often times criticize them more harshly because they are at the forefront and are mainly positioned as the “good/best” person ever. In Lucas’ case, I think he gets this type of hate because he keeps making the same mistakes over and over constantly. Not to mention you have one fandom (Leyton) who are sympathetic towards Peyton because like her, all they want is for Lucas to open his eyes and admit where his heart truly is. Then you have the other side (Brucas) who are just annoyed and bitter that they are completely forgotten to a certain extent besides the dedicated fan service that they choose to throw in every now and then to please them. I will never not be a Brucas shipper but at the same time I recognize that she was better off without that type of toxic atmosphere. Which is why I appreciate that other future ship a lot more. As for Leyton, we’ll get there but I was just over seeing history repeat itself because individually I think they are better than that.
Nathan
2020-06-10 12:01:14 +0000 UTC
There are still more Brucas shippers out there than a certain other future ship, I find that a little fun lol. I do think people over dramatise Lucas' flaws a little bit, be it because he’s the main character, or because of the Leyton Vs. Brucas wars or because Chad and Sophia didn’t work out in real life and all the drama surrounding that relationship. he’s not perfect but he’s by no means the worst, he’s still a great guy, a good brother, friend, uncle, son, and boyfriend only when it comes to Peyton lol. He was just being a dumb 19 year old here who got his proposal rejected, sure she never said no but it kind of still felt like a rejection and it still stings. And I don’t think he wanted her to drop her dreams as Juli put it, he did say he’d move to LA with her if that’s what she wanted, and he pointed out that she was doing more in Tree Hill as a music producer which is true albeit it was still not okay of him to say that when she’s just starting. And again he was being an impulsive 19 year old with his now or never type mentality and wanting to have what Naley have. sucked but I think it’s hard for a couple to survived a failed proposal, idk lol. There are other things that happen this season that we'll get into but my biggest problem actually comes later towards the end of s5.

Unpopular opinion , since everyone seems to be pissed with Lucas at the moment lol (as i am sometimes) i can't help but to put myself in his shoes. If i proposed to someone and they said not right now i would be butt hurt to and probably not handle it well. Although the timing was not right, i feel like he saw how Naley was and wanted to feel that with Peyton, since the were having communication issue being long distance and all and thought marriage would fix it. I didn't read the proposal scene as he was saying his career over Peyton's. I think he just wanted her to be dumb and in love as he was, and for her to just say lets get married now in Vegas without thinking. I mean he was suppose to be 19 in the flashback. And comparing relationships is unfair but it happens i mean people say #relationshipsgoals all the time. And they both could of mentioned solutions to making long distance work. And it's easier said to continue to stay in relationship with someone who lowkey said no to your marriage proposal. Even though i agree why she said no not now, that doesn't mean he can't feel some time away about it.

Lmao It’s truly hilarious how Lucas can make all these mistakes and do shitty things over and over with the women in his life yet Leyton and Brucas shippers were really out here wanting and dying for him to be with one these amazing women in the end. I’m so glad S6 blessed me with a much option than both of those choices.

I understand Lucas. He proposed and wanted to be engaged. Marriage can happen down the line but to reject an engagement especially when you do love him and he is willing to move isn’t good. They didn’t have to get married right away but if you love someone and plan to spend your life with them don’t reject the engagement cause to me it’s like rejecting his choosing of you and you did not choose him back. As simple as that. And she was late all the time. Not respecting a persons time.

I see it's been mentioned already, but I wanna say it as well; PEYTON NEVER SAID NO. There's a huge difference between "no" and "someday". And anyway, what the hell was Lucas thinking asking Peyton to marry him at this point in their lives?? They've barely seen each other the past year and he thinks the best idea is to get married?? Yes, Naley did it, but we all know how hard they've worked for that marriage and for each other. It's a little sad to say, but Lucas isn't willing to fight to make it work the same way Naley did and still do it. It feels a little like he's hoping everything will be a dance on roses. Ambushing Peyton with this proposal is really not fair to her. And then just leaving without even saying goodbye, I can't even begin to say how much of a jerk he's being. All the stupid desicions he make when he's hurt and heartbroken, yes he's still young, but when it comes to his love life he never learns from his mistakes. And it frustrates me every single time. And as if it wasn't enough that he made a fool of himself with Peyton and on top of that leaving her just as heartboken, he goes and makes an even bigger jerk move with Brooke. It still baffles me how he managed to hurt two of the girls in his life in one and the same day. It's all such a huge mess. The way he just goes ahead and crashes into his relationships without even thinking about how much he's hurting the girls he dates and how much his actions affect them, I can't forgive him for being such a jerk. And speaking of being a jerk, drunk and hurt or not, kissing Brooke was so out of line. It's not fair to either Brooke or Peyton.

Lucas is just the worst oh my god. Everytime I see this episode I just roll my eyes because of his stupidity ! As you said, none of this make sense. His head works off!
And it just piss me off that he and some of OTH fans keep saying Peyton said no. She did not, she said she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him but not to marry him immediately and she was right, by leaving her and let her off his life he proved her right. Lucas is just so a mess in this season and you’ll see he will keep choosing the wrong pates again and again this season this will be just 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

Do I believe that Lucas and Peyton are it for each other!? Yes definitely but this episode just proved how they’re both still immature and not ready for such a serious commitment, especially Lucas. It’s like he reverted back to 1x07 Lucas who in the middle of a makeout with a girl he wasn’t even dating yet told her that "I want this ( her heart ) I want us, I want everything with you." and scared Peyton off and once again he does something similar. He can’t just drop his dreams and move to LA with her and he can’t expect her to drop her dreams and move back to Tree Hill and try to build a career there because she succeeded at it as a teenager. She wants to grow and do new things but she also wants him by her. They should’ve done what Juli said which is a trial experiment and see if their relationship could survive another year or 6 months long distance and tried to be more participant in each other’s lives and if it didn’t work they could’ve ended it. It was so unfair for him to just leave without a proper goodbye, I hated his all or nothing mentality.
What happened to S4 "I love you Peyton, and I’ll wait for you, as long as it takes." Thats the Lucas that should’ve been there. I usually love how Lucas is 100% there for Peyton, at least he used to be for most of s1-4 but S5 puts us to the test and just has him acting completely out of character with her. I can’t picture S4 Lucas making this kind of ultimatum with her.
I just love how much Brooke has grown and keeps reminding everyone that High School is over and encouraged Lucas to go be the be best version of himself and approach Peyton when’s he’s truly ready, because he was not ready at that moment and I’ll give him a pass for being really drunk but it was still a shitty thing to kiss Brooke given their past and how hurt she was after their relationship that took her so long to recover from .
I love Lucas but S5 is a rough one for him and despite it Leyton is still my favorite ship because they really go through it, Naley always feels safe. I never worry about them but Leyton has this "anything can happen." element to them, they’re very star-crossed and angsty and they ultimately belong together but it’s a difficult ride at times.
What can I say about Naley, they were cute as always and also loved all the foreshadowing in those flashbacks.

Oh yes! I totally agree. This is all on Lucas. Heartbreak follows wherever he goes. Not to mention all the things he does from here on out. He plays with both of their hearts because he couldn't work on a relationship that he apparently cared so much about.

I 100% agree. He had zero patience with her and this all-or-nothing mentality is just extremely unfair. Besides, it's not like Naley didn't face the "job or love" problem too. They just always worked on a solution together. For them not being together was never an option, but clearly for Lucas it was.

I know all the songs on oth cuz im that fan that has a oth playlist lmfao so the song Peyton said to listen to when he wins the championship is the same song the show played when Lucas said "it's you" to Peyton when they won the championship. When they played it, it was right after Lucas got the shot in the last seconds and they all were hugging in the confetti and haley kissing Nathan and everyone happy and then Brooke telling Lucas to go and peyton and Lucas kiss. just a little throwback with that song

I really loved this episode and it was a much needed trip into the past. It really puts everything in perspective: Brooke's loneliness, Peyton's jealousy, why the hell Leyton broke up in the first place and also that Nathan always had an impulse control problem.
While I really strongly dislike how Lucas handles his love life, I do appreciate Peyton not letting herself be pressured into something she wasn't ready for and that she wouldn't drop her career for a guy. That would've been incredibly ooc.

I love Lucas but he really acted like a child throughout this episode... He should’ve been able to understand where Peyton was coming from because at the end of the day she was right. If they couldn’t make it to next year how the hell did he expect them to stay married. My heart really breaks for Peyton ( & Lindsay) bc he’s leading them both on. He’s telling them both how in love with Lindsay he is but then goes and makes the “he’s not good enough for you” comment.. anyways I’m ranting but overall Lucas really annoyed me this season

Can't wait for your thoughts on s6 Lucas, feels like a whole different man ! But I think we can all agree that s5 wasn't his best season, sadly... I still ship Leyton more than anything, though ! I think we have to remember that Lucas was also young and confused and afraid, and he was missing Peyton so much. That doesn't excuse anything, but I can see where he was coming from. But Peyton had every right to not be ready, and he should have respected that. Now the question is : will they fin their way back to each other ?

After this episode I was always screaming at my tv ... “PEYTON NEVER SAID NO!” I feel like that’s the basis for them breaking up because people think she said no. She didn’t say no she said she wanted to marry him someday. He chose to be a coward and leave her while she was sleeping. This is all Lucas’s fault and I really dislike how he treats Lindsay and plays with Peyton’s feelings this season. No wonder why Peyton reacts the way she does to Lindsay and the whole situation. It’d be hard to accept the fact that he’s in love with someone else when he ended their relationship the way he did and says things to Peyton like he did at the store opening.

ugh yes. I mean Peyton was so right - if this long distance thing is already stressing him out what is that proposal about? they should've just worked on their relationship, tried making more time for each other and then eventually they could've gotten married. I honestly feel like Lucas should have had more patience with Peyton. I feel like when Lucas was looking at Haley and Nathan and what they had, he felt that it was time for him and Peyton to have their moment, but it wasn't the right time honestly. In this moment, Lucas had a "all or nothing" mentality which was not right. I felt like if he was more patient with Peyton, they probably would have been married by now. Lucas walking out on her and then kissing Brooke was just totally unfair to both Peyton and Brooke. It's like Lucas went back to high school and his childish behavior. That was low for him

I want to cover a few things at the risk of this comment being long....Iv'e never truly been a big Leyton fan but THAT scene broke my heart for real, it's really tragic and hits too close to home when it comes to long distance things not working out, the way Lucas says 'You're saying no..' slays me every time. Now let's get to some real discussion on lucas, and for real it's weird talking about him considering I share a First Name with the guy lmao;;; This is the part where I say Lucas is really really not my favorite in season 5 for many reasons, mostly proposing was really stupid, he almost verbatum said I don't know how we will be a year from now and asks her to marry him as an ultimatum, at the same time! Very shitty....He still doesn't know what he wants exactly, and i'm one to believe that Lindsey is great but Lucas really doesn't deserve it, ok because we followed Peyton for all this time you kind of root for them two but in the end it's all on Lucas being a shitty person and not being able to make up his mind, there's nothing wrong with Lindsey, i'm just not really fond of how Lucas behaves with his love interests like any of them.....It's just how I feel

The beginning of Lucas' obsession with getting married, I don’t understand why he wanted to get married so bad right there and then and why he couldn’t just wait.
Kissing Brooke was so unfair to her given their history and to Peyton who he just left without as much as a goodbye or a proper breakup.

As a former Brucas shipper, I have to say that Lucas kissing Brooke is really an unfair move. He's very hurt but no need to be selfish like that without considering Brooke's (or other) potential feelings.
Also is a dick with Peyton. Dumbass.
It's actually my favorite episode of S5.
