2PM - 'MUST' Album Listening Party

Comments

I just got around to watching your album listening party. I've been rationing 2pm content since their comeback wrapped up. lol I agree that 2pm's music can hold it's own against groups these days. I still listen to a lot of their older music and especially their Japanese albums lately. It could be because I'm older, but I still appreciate and listen to the earlier albums. It's just my preference. I find the older I get, the pickier I get. Their vocals have really hit another level the last couple of albums. Chansung and Nichkhun really impressed me on this last release. I'm also really glad that Taecyeon has more singing parts. I was hoping he would since I heard him sing on Chansung's song, Uneasy. Needless to say, I love this latest album.

I agree with you on the songs! I love the album! OK or Not is my least favourite (without counting the intro ofc) out of all of them as well. Even tho it's still a really good song! I don't really know what to do with the chorus. But I really enjoy the stanzas! For the rest of the songs: I love them! I love them all and I really enjoy this album! I'm not sure if I would call it my favourite of all of the releases, but it's definitely up there! I have such a hard time choosing my fav albums because there are soooo many good songs in every one of their albums. I was smiling a little when you said that you would pick Champagne as the titel track if Make It wasn't there because it's Taecyeon's song and the last titel track they had before they enlisted was also Taecyeon's song as well (Promise (I'll be)). It proves to me that they really came a long way and I'm very proud that I can say that I was able to witness their journey for the past ~11 years. They really REALLY worked hard and I'm so so proud of them! I'm also really happy that newer Kpop fans seem to fall in love with them~ btw if you enjoyed the acoustic version of My House you could check out 'Jun.K The First Take My House' on yt. It's the exact same arangement but with only Jun.K singing it. It was released around 3 months ago and when I heard it for the first time I was like 'THIS IS SOOO GOOD!' and I freaked when I read My House Acoustic version on the album. I was hoping for the same vibe but with all members. And they delivered <3 You are making HOTTEST really happy with your content! So, THANK YOU! Cheers 🤗

2pm debuted at a time when I feel like kpop as a whole was more experimental and rough around the edges. I feel like they were one of the last to exist in that era of kpop where things were more free and there were less rules. It's particularly interesting to watch their variety appearances where they're almost always half-naked and sexual or where they are interacting with other groups so freely. (There's one particular show that sticks out for me where Taecyeon and Heechul are playing chicken in a lake with Yoona and Sohee on their shoulders. Something like this would never fly for current idol groups who cant even interact at awards events. This is the only place I can find a clip of it - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2t8xro) It feels like groups these days are expected to come out of the gate completely polished and heavily PR trained. You'd never see a junior JYP group getting away with disrespecting and clowning JYP as openly as 2pm did. Or experimenting and taking as many risks as 2pm did (which isn't only because of the way the industry has changed but also because of the oversaturation of groups right now where one misstep can lose you your whole chance at a successful idol career). Going through some of their older content really shows how much the kpop environment has changed (and honestly taken some steps backwards). ANYWAY I'm just really excited to talk about 2pm because they were the first group I ever got into by myself, during a time where there weren't many people in the States talking about kpop. My favorites have gotta be Champagne, Make It and The Cafe. Looking forward to more content and having a blast revisiting my OG biases!

I've been listening to 2pm for only 3 years and I've heard most of their songs and seen most of their concerts. This current album is probably their best all around album. I don't think there is a song I don't like. But, you're right, they've come a long way. Their vocals were not always on point...especially on live performances. But it must be hard to sing and dance at the same time so I still loved them. It's great that who they are today just shows their hard work they put into perfecting their singing. The Must album really, really shows that. I'm impressed by them especially since I've seen their early performances. Not to take away from who they were when they were 21 because what they lacked in mastering the art of singing...they made up for it with how good they were at performing in front of a live audience. They pull you in and you say...yeah..damn they are good and I'll be a fan forever. This relatively new fan hopes they continue to produce and perform for a very long time. The other great thing is they are able to show you their individual skills as solo artists...especially Junho and Jun K who have had a lot more solo concerts than the others. Junho blows my mind every time with his performances. I'm a fan.

Yes! This is the reaction I was waiting for! I knew you'd enjoy the album but i also love how you notice all the little details in each songs that make you like them. And right at the end when you recognize that their amazing musicality comes from hard work. You'll really see how far they've grown if you go back to their earlier performances. Makes it all the more amazing to see how ALL of them can now sing / rap / compose on equal footings. I'm also glad you notice how versatile they are in terms of music style i mean they have songs with r&b/sexy/jazzy/club bangers/dramatic/sweet/chill/dancydisco/pop/rock/heartfelt etc. etc. vibes. Some of their b-side songs are really interesting. (My favorites are Red, Game Over, Superman) And that over-arching (or underlying) essence of 2PM-ness has been very clear since the beginning and only grow much more so once they composed songs for themselves. (From 'Grown' album onwards, IMO) I think it's because they have been togther for so long and know each other styles and preference so well that when they compose they kinda have the mutual framework of their OT6 in mind. So whatever music genre they throw at each other always have their communal kind of color in it. (If that makes any sense) Now I feel like I have to go back and listen to all of their stuff all over again.

I was hoping you’d do this for this album. I love your reactions for them so far. Prior to this release, No. 5 was my favorite Korean album (please listen to that one if you haven’t already). But Must is even more cohesive and showcases so much of their talent and creativity. Make It is also now my favorite Korean title, supplanting Go Crazy. I haven’t picked a favorite b-side yet. Depends on my mood. You remarked on breathy vocals quite a few times - that’s Wooyoung. He’s the master of JYP’s famous half-air/half-sound technique. He also wrote the piano melody you like in Make It, and likely the melody in The Cafe as well. I strongly suggest you listen to his last two solo releases - Bye (KR) and Mada Boku wa…(JPN). He wrote/composed most of the songs on both. He experiments with a lot of styles (for a wild one, go check out Party Shots). He also wrote Yo Moriagatte Yo for Got7’s album - his own rendition is unmatched because of the sheer amount of crazy energy he puts into it. He also has some ballads. All 2PM members rap, not just Taec. I’m glad Jun. K and Wooyoung get some rap lines in songs, because they’re both talented that way too. Champagne was likely in contention for the title track, as was On My Way, but they decided to go in this direction with Make It. Glad you love all three - they are all very 2PM. Looking forward to more from you soon! Welcome to the fandom. :)

My favorite b-side is Ok or Not. If you are interested in seeing a live of this song, they are performing it at music shows. If I had to pick a song to replace Make It, it would probably be On my way, but Champagne holds a special place in my heart because of Jun.K's rap. I definitely love it when he raps. I'm excited by the reaction to Wild beat

I am so excited for your reaction to their reality show😍😍😍

Wuaaahh listening party to 2PM album 😆 I love how you are being honest on giving your opinion. You told us when you're not sure with the song 💛 Anyway, the title track (Make It) and the cafe were written and composed by Wooyoung. It's interesting how the intro of all songs in this album is sang by Wooyoung. Ok or Not, On My Way, Hold You, and My House were composed and written by Jun. K. Meanwhile Champagne was composed by Taecyeon. If you're used to 2PM songs, you'll know that Wooyoung's songs tend to be light, bright and cheerful. Jun. K songs are quite heavy in terms of music arrangement, and it's also influenced a lot with RnB. Taecyeon loves to make party song 😆 If I were to choose the best b track... ehmmmm it's hard.. I love relaxing songs, so I'll choose moon and back, two of us, and hold you 😆 If it's possible, would you also listen to Jun. K album? THIS IS NOT A SONG album (japanese) or 20 Minutes album (Korean). It's bop!!! Anyway, I can't wait for your reaction on their Wild Beat 2PM 😆
