I often get super irritated when something I like to wear comes in trend, because that means that it will very soon be OUT of style and I look like an out-of-touch hanger-on if I still wear it. Does this ever happen to you and how do you navigate it? I don't want to throw away/sell my beautiful oxblood and mocha items once they are "over", nor do I want to look ridiculous. Another example is skinny jeans. I loved to wear skinny jeans in the early 2000s when flares were in, and during the trend, and now they're completely out and i look clueless if I wear them.

2024-12-13 01:09:24 +0000 UTCi’ve always thought about this, not necessarily because of dupes though. it gets into the eyes of more people with the use of tiktok, but then the internet (and tiktok) age values a garment depending on how trendy it is at the time (example - margiela tabi’s, n(n) school of visual comedy, vetements 16-17, ect). Although tabi’s have always been generational, a lot of people are buying them for the sole purpose of tiktok. it also completely wipes the idea of subcultures since everybody’s reference is so broad
