OH MY GIRL - 'Dear OHMYGIRL' Album Listening Party | REACTION

Comments

I had a similar reaction listening to My Doll's track teaser and full track, it sounded so different, you don't hear those vocal effects much in kpop. After some listens though the oddness fades and I've come to love its place in the album. Dear OH MY GIRL is quite different and another new direction for Oh My Girl. As you listen to more of their albums you'll notice that they love to explore different genres in their B-sides. There are no tracks I can pick out here and say have a similar sound to anything they've previously released. The album has a wonderful cohesiveness though, I can press play and chill in the vibe they give us. Dun Dun Dance grabs you, then Dear You invites you closer, My Doll laughs at your expectations and plays with you, Quest invites you to play too, Who Comes Who Knows reminds you that you don't know them yet, and then suddenly Swan sends you away oddly pumped regardless of the questions you still have about what you've just heard. Next up has to be The Fifth Season/Fall In Love. An album crammed full of amazing tracks. As you said, Dear OH MY GIRL doesn't really have a B-side that stands out as a, "Hey! This could have been the title track!" That's because they're all hiding in The Fifth Season waiting for you.

Unhelpful

I actually prefer Spotify for album listens since the audio quality can be a lot better than Youtube reuploaded audio.

Bungee and Windy Day are both iconic albums tho, so, seconded! ^^

My doll took me a second listen to get what they were going for - it’s got a shock value factor to overcome audibly when you have a limited mental reference for Oh My Girl and their discography diversity - but I love it now. I think I read somewhere that the lyricist was feeling very sentimental about forgotten childhood comforts (in this case a doll) so it’s nostalgic, slightly bittersweet and regretful. Not something that the casual title track only type of fan would be expecting from these goofballs. Their ability to convey emotion in songs and their experimentally diverse discography is truly their strength that not many people are aware of, as it shines most in the b sides. As for album recommendations, I’m going to be basic bitch miracle and suggest the bungee repackage (since it added just bungee and tropical love to the fifth season) and the windy day repackage (which added windy day and the stupid in love duet of Binnie and Seunghee). Saying “all of them” would be much of a recommendation so.
