The Florida Project (2017) MOVIE REACTION & REVIEW

I loved Moonee and Halley's relationship... Was it wrong what she did? Yes absolutely!! But for the Government to take her kid away? IDK :(

What do you guys think?

Thank you so much Ally D. for sponsoring this film!

The Florida Project (2017) MOVIE REACTION & REVIEW

Comments

I believe her friend distanced herself because she didn't know how bad it was with hayley, she was watching her kid and letting them go wild and go out doing dangerous things alone. As a mom she did what she thought was best. But also, I believe she could have communicated with her instead of shutting her out like that.

with all that she was doing they def took her realistically, and probably gave her a date to get her shit together to maybe get her back.

sadly, we don't get to know how the movie ends. the director said it's up to the viewer's imagination. i have always personally believed that the child services saw that Moonee refused to leave Halley's side, so instead of taking Moonee away, they fined Halley and warned her if they caught her doing it again, they'd have no choice but to take Moonee. it's unlikely that's what would've happened since child services are corrupt, but i can't handle a sad ending lol

god this movie hits different every time. i relate to Moonee on some levels a lot. i grew up with me, my siblings and my Mom, and we'd get into so much trouble all the time 😂 my Mom is gone a lot with work, but we're still very close with her. for us we're lucky, because our Mom has a very good paying job, so we live really well, but Moonee's situation is still so unfortunately common. i agree with you Juli that what Halley did was wrong, but i don't think Moonee should've been taken away from her. she's still a good mother, she was trying her hardest to do what she could to provide for Moonee, and taking her away was the wrong thing to do in my opinion

Thanks for reacting Juli!! I’m glad you liked it. I feel like this movie is so underrated just because it’s an indie film but it’s such a quality piece of cinema. I love this movie because it really does tackle a hard question. Halley obviously loves Moonee but she also put her daughter in some dangerous situations. I think it’s also interesting how they tackle poverty too. Disney is such a touristy, expensive place where money pours in, yet within walking distance are these low income/ poor areas that all these people are suffering. I think it’s cool how this movie is shot too. It feels like a documentary almost. Like the dialogue isn’t dramatic or Hollywood scripted, it feels like a ton of things a kid would actually say. Also the actress who plays Halley isn’t even (or wasn’t at the time) an actress. The director saw her instagram profile, and loved her look with the tattoos and her hair and how she behaved that he brought her on as an actress, which I think might add to the authenticity.

this movies reminds me of when I grew up in the projects lmao 😂 Use to screw around with the neighborhood kids just like that.
