Honestly don’t really have much to say abt the whole Mickey and Ian conflict just that I completely understand from both sides where they’re coming from. Ian being insecure about if Mickey really does love him and if marriage is right for them but also from Mickey’s side being upset and thinking that Ian doesn’t love him and that the whole proposal thing was just for holding up in court… Have already seen all of shameless but it’s gonna be interesting watching these reactions and hearing what Juli has to say abt these two love birds! ;3

i havent watched this reaction yet but i just need to say some things bc of the comments.
ian loves mickey, and its not rlly about the marriage, hes just scared. they just need to talk. he shouldnt have brought up the marriage to begin with and gotten mickeys hopes up, that was definitely wrong. but i also dont think he realized that mickey didnt just wanna get married so they couldnt testify against each other, and suddenly there was a lot of pressure. he tried to talk to mickey so they could communicate for once but mickey just punched him. ians bipolar rlly comes into play here, and all the insecurities that come with it. he feels like he will be a burden to mickey and that it wont work out, just like frank and monica. he knows how much hes already hurt mickey. it doesnt rlly matter what mickey has done, cause his mental illness is always gonna make him question things. logically and for us its so easy to see how much mickey loves him and all that but its different from his perspective and it always will be. none of this makes shit any easier for mickey and his feelings are 100% valid, but i feel like ppl think mickey loves ian more than ian loves mickey which just isnt true. ppl also forget that ian bent over backwards for mickey the first 3 seasons and no one is mad at mickey for that, but when the roles are reversed no one sees ians side of things.

After everything they've been through together, and especially after everything Mickey's done for Ian, not signing the papers at that point was just insulting. Mickey deserves to get mad too. Up to this point, he's been the one primarily holding up the relationship. Ian needed a serious wake-up call.

I feel so bad for Mickey. I do get where Ian is coming from. But I feel so bad for Mickey, even after he punched Ian. I don’t think he should have punched him. He was wrong for that. I agree with what you said about the dynamics of their relationship.

Honestly, I feel like the writers after season 5 just don’t get gallavich. Cameron hurt his leg skiing I think ( that’s why he’s limping throughout this episode, he’s wearing a boot and hiding it.) and the first thing they think of to solve this is Mickey punching Ian. You bring a good point up about a lot of their relationship being dictated by Ian’s wants or needs, because I feel that way too. I don’t see Mickey having much control of their relationship past season 3, and even then it was controlled by Terry, and then Svetlana. A lot of Mickey’s trauma is never fully addressed or dealt with. It’s just swept under the rug.
I love Ian and I understand where he’s coming from. He’s got good reasons and intentions, but a LOT of time Mickey is hurt in the crossfire and we never really see resolution, just Mickey coming back and things continuing on. It doesn’t help that a lot of cut gallavich scenes are the loving ones, either. I know a lot of Ian’s hesitation is more internal struggle than the actual marriage with Mickey.
I’m not a huge fan of the constant bashing of Mickey’s character either. He’s always called psycho, or stupid, or whatever else they can put in for a few laughs. Ian is constantly insulting Mickey to his family and friends, and it’s off-putting. Again I chalk it up to bad writing, because in my opinion? Ian wouldn’t talk about Mickey like that.
I’m so glad to see you finishing the show! It’s so wonderful to see you so invested.

I mean, I really don't blame Ian for not signing the papers... They'd literally just suspected each other of murder. I wouldn't wanna get married right then either tbh... I mean, there's more to it than just that... But still...
