Currently rewatching along with youtube until the binge :). That breakup was the best part of my summer, lol. I never connected with Nini and it was largely in part because of Olivia's acting; which by extension left me with no connection to any of the songs she sang either. Sure, she has singing talent but the songs didn't hit for me because of the lack of investment in the stories they were often connected to.

But the reason I stopped shipping almost altogether for this show is I watched season 3 without looking at what others were saying online and I realized I really just didn't care about almost every ship and just was choosing sides and that was just not a fun way to watch the show.

My comment wasn't anything about creating a narrative. And "Alleged"? I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that they dated and broke up.

I am aware that you stated that you don’t “ship” Ricky & Nini but that line of logic is prevalent in some people that do; I think it's really strange as it also drives a lot of their bias not only towards CHARACTERS in the show but also ACTORS. I guess I just don't get how people can conccot scenarios, create narratives and accept them as truths…

2023-02-18 08:40:06 +0000 UTCBoth Olivia and Josh did amazing in that scene. Imagine how hard it was for both of them to relive their own breakup through Nini and Ricky. I mean it was different circumstances but still makes me emotional watching it. And yeah Olivia did end up making not only a song but a whole ass album that is incredible from the breakup. I do have to say as a viewer who doesn't ship either Rini or Rina I wish you had a more understanding and less careless reaction to the breakup. I get it, you wanted them to break up, but that doesn't make the scene any less heartbreaking or any less than incredibly well done. When this was airing I had some really bad experiences with the Rina shippers on Twitter after this episode came out. And I think because of that I started shipping Portwell (EJ and Gina) even more than I already was to spite them. And now I don't care about any couple in this show except Seb ad Carlos who are my literal sons. I just think it's okay to have a ship you enjoy but people need to stop shitting on the ships they don't like because every ship has a fan. But that's just my opinion and experience.

I stopped looking at the HSMTMTS hashtag after that happened. I logged out of Twitter after Legacies finished so I actually got to enjoy Season 3 for myself without being attacked for my opinions on Twitter. It was great to be honest.

2023-02-17 23:52:27 +0000 UTC“that level of understanding i only want her to have with ricky” and even with them giving ej and gina that couch scene where they talk it’s just her making him feel better and when he actually asks her if she understands she says she doesn’t 🫢🫢 i was actually really feeling kourtney and howie as a relationship especially because the whole enemies to lovers thing is a trope i really like, but for some reason starting this episode i kind of lost interest in their relationship. maybe it’s the fact i just don’t find any of the new characters this season interesting but i really stopped caring. not about kourt because she’s one of my favorite characters but just about that relationship and it really surprised me because i really like the whole romeo and juliet “we are on two different teams” kind of thing as well but it just lost me for some reason. it’s insane that nini and ricky are in a relationship, but haven’t spoken for three days. and the sucky part is ricky is actually trying to communicate when last season that was his big problem and i can’t get too mad at nini because i really think she’s just running away from the fact that her relationship is over and doesn’t want to accept it either but it’s just insane. and insisting that her name change and song has nothing to do with ricky? just really sucks for both of them. “they went into this relationship for the wrong reasons. they wanted some common ground since everything was changing. they haven’t realized they have changed. they’re different people now.” EXACTLY my big problem with portwell (aka gina and ej) it’s just the fact that they just did it because they’re both single. like i don’t mind gina being in a relationship and having relationship experience even if I want her with ricky. i can handle that but with ej? i can understand that her feelings maybe came from the fact that he’s paying attention to her and she wants to be over ricky and forget about him so she’s turning to ej. It’s easy to gain feelings for someone when they’re being so nice to you and they’re paying attention to you when you don’t feel see. there’s nothing wrong with that, and like i said, i didn’t mind if she would be in a relationship that wasn’t with ricky even though i want them together but ej and her have no chemistry in my opinion and they’re suddenly so close and besties like when did this happen? they have great friend chemistry, but as soon as they try being romantic with each other all that chemistry goes out the window. in my opinion they have the worst romantic chemistry i’ve seen in a long time and people may disagree with that because i know a lot of people ship them but that’s just how i feel. and it also doesn’t help i have no idea where ej’s feelings even came from. i can understand gina’s in someway but ej’s? they had a two second conversation in episode five and he was like yeah she’s the one. like to me into seems like he’s running away from his problems and jumping into a relationship. i would’ve liked to see more of his relationship with his dad and duke instead of doing it off screen and giving us an ej and gina conversation instead. his relationship with his dad is the most interesting part of his storyline and they really neglected it in my opinion just to start focusing on gina and ej as a relationship. i wish I felt emotional when i watched the rini break up, but i didn’t either. i mostly felt vindication because ricky was saying what we’ve been saying this entire time. that he wanted to protect his relationship because it feels safe. same thing with nini’s rose song when she was saying that ricky only loves her for what she represents and not for who she is. it was just vindication after vindication. and for me, even though i think their build up to their break up was written wonderfully, they gave me nothing to work with because I never cared about the relationship and sometimes i didn’t even like who they were when they were together (another thing ricky says i felt vindicated about - that he didn’t like who he was becoming). if anything i just felt sad for them as characters, but even then not really because i knew this was the best thing for both of them. you aren’t alone in the worry that if they were to put ricky and gina together they wouldn’t stay together and that it seems like no one does in the show. but the creator said he always wanted nini and ricky to break up and he wanted to put them back together to realize they aren’t right for each other anymore. and to me i see the ej and gina relationship as just someone to maybe give gina relationship experience. like she wants to be over ricky so badly and she’s iced him out so she wants to move on as quickly as she can as well. it’s really irritating because they just want to pretend like ricky and gina didn’t even happen and all they wrote at the beginning of season two didn’t happen. but it did! like people have tried to tell us that that flashback was closure for gina. like no it wasn’t? we still don’t even have any idea what ricky was feeling that entire half of the first season, and they portrayed it in a way that gina and him have not had any closure at all. she’s just running away from it and ricky is not going to think about his relationship with gina because she’s iced him out and he just broke up with nini. i understand completely how you feel about nini. sadly in my opinion, she is just one of those main characters that is just not as interesting as other characters. like sadly, in a lot of shows especially teen dramas the main person is not that interesting and nini falls under that. i also don’t think it helps that even though i love olivia rodrigo and her music, she’s not the strongest actress in my opinion. big red and ashlyn really have the strongest relationship on the show and it’s because they give them conflict but they make them move past it and actually communicate. and i love that.
