i kinda did understood cate. her parents locked her up for 9 years with no physical contact, so dean shetty and professor brink used that against cate to manipulate her into doing their dirty work with the final goal being killing all supes. those were her only relationships with humans, so it's not a surprise to me that cate doesn't trust them
