2023-11-02 15:27:24 +0000 UTCYea, like I kinda saw the airport scene as if he went, it was almost like saying goodbye to a very close friend and a lot can change, people can change a lot in 4 years, so it can be pretty hard to say no to that for someone you’ve known for so long. Joey just doesn’t want to lose her closest friend IMO, maybe it’s not completely about loving him or whatever. She’s definitely not giving up her school for any guy, that’s what her whole life has been about getting there, but dawson isn’t thinking about his future like he should, like joey’s dream was school.

Dawson and Joey used to make me so miserable but I can see something here that I didn't before: Dawson is the one who chooses to stay, he wants to leave LA and he needs a reason to, so he forces Joey to make that choice for him. Joey didn't have to tell him to stay, she just had to tell him that she didn't want them becoming strangers and now it's like she made that choice for him but she never did. Wow. I'm learning so much about how you can be manipulated without nefarious intentions here. And that's so real now that I'm an adult and can see it.
