I’m so glad you’re reacting to this. It’s so good!!!! This film actually went through hell to get developed. It was originally produced by Blue Sky Studios (which was owned by fox) and was supposed to be released in 2020. But then Disney acquired Fox and the film kept getting delayed. Allegedly (even though we all know it’s true), Disney kept pushing back on the movie due to its themes and queerness. Finally in 2021 Disney shut down Blue Sky and cancelled the movie. It was 80% completed by that point. It kind of just stayed in development hell for a couple years until it was picked up by another studio. I’m glad it worked out in the end. It’s such a beautiful story that I feel Disney would have watered down if they actually retained the film.
