BOOK CLUB: March Poll!
Added 2022-03-07 11:49:00 +0000 UTCSo, I've almost finished the edit for the Spears of the Emperor book club - just one more thing to confirm until we release it. But in the meantime, we're ready to start on the next one. What shall we choose?
RAVENOR has been next on the list for a while, so we can complete Dan Abnett's Inquisition series.
MARK OF FAITH and HONOURBOUND are both by Rachel Harrison, and Mira has been recommended both. Mark of Faith has some interesting ideas and is apparently a really good portrayal of the sisters, on the other hand Honourbound is most well known for being really unflinchingly pro-Imperial in a way that feels uncomfortable. Neither of us has read them.
THE INFINITE AND THE DIVINE was suggested to Mira on her recent appearance on Fluffenhammer podcast. I've tried to audiobook it once and just couldn't get into it - the accents were just dodgy - but might be better in-print. Good non-imperial POV?
So there we go. Four books to choose from. Which shall be next?

Yeah, that's what I expected and the one I haven't read. I'll bookmark the video when it comes out so I can watch it if I eventually read it (like the last one and forthcoming). If you get round to the others I'll be ahead of the game! I've just started the Night Lords Omnibus. Haven't ready any ADB before, am enjoying it so far.

2022-03-10 21:52:00 +0000 UTCWhen would you record the video? Trying to work out if I've got time to read the likely winner. I've read relatively few Black Libary novels, but I have read three of those four, and I'd vote for them for different reasons. (Though I guess we just want to hear opinions that agree with our own, so probably just the same reason!)

2022-03-07 13:21:41 +0000 UTCI'm currently reading The infinite and the Divine and loving it. But aside for my own reasons, it really is a great book and would make an interesting Book Club episode, I'm sure.

2022-03-07 13:21:16 +0000 UTCThe infinite and the divine is such a great book and it's one of the few books from a xenos perspective.

2022-03-07 12:31:21 +0000 UTCThe Infinite and the Divine is genuinely my favourite 40k book having read a lot of them over the years, i did struggle with the start of the audio book myself but once it got rolling it was truly great stuff.

2022-03-07 12:17:14 +0000 UTCJokes aside I would also add that it has some really interesting depictions of the Necrons and how horrifying the destroyer virus actually is. It does a good job making the Necrons feel alien, highly advanced and yet 'human' enough to be relatable (for the most part at least.)

2022-03-07 12:01:16 +0000 UTCI'm all for hearing more of your thoughts on uncomfortably pro-imperial writing.

2022-03-07 11:59:01 +0000 UTCI'd go with Infinite and the Divine or Ravenor, though Infinite and the Divine is infinitely better (though already being a really fun book) if you picture them with the voices of those two old man Muppets 😆
