HERESY ARMY BUILD - How shall we do this?

Ok, patrons, in a couple of weeks we'll record the first update, so I thought I'd canvas people's opinion on how to do this.

The initial idea was to keep this Patron-only and I think that's been a good one. Lots of people here seem interested, and it we have too many coming from all directions, it'll be difficult to keep track in the show.

Originally, my vague plan was to put out a call for submissions the week before filming (around the 15th of each month) and people could email their 'progress shot' (one or two images) for the month and we'd sort it out.

A few people have suggested doing this via Discord which allows a group to be constantly updated, and I could have a separate channel for 'monthly submissions'. However, running and moderating a Discord is a fair amount of extra work so I've always been a little cautious about it. There's the possibility to make that an extra level on this one-level Patreon, but kind wanna check in to see what people prefer.

So, what would people prefer?

I think another discord channel, for me, would just get caught up in the wash of the dozens of other channels. I'm for whatever happens either way, just my thoughts on it though.

Ah fair enough. Discord is still a bit of a responsibility though. Depending on the amount of users.

moderation on Facebook and Discord are going to be similar though I think Discord might be a little easier after initial set up as you can get moderation bots

A discord would be great, but I've voted for emailing in this case. Perhaps shows my age... ;)

I agree. While a discord would be cooler for the community aspect, helping each other out and offering advice etc. As others say. It is another job in terms of moderation. Plus would it be exclusive to people who sign up before a certain day/date or tier as you mentioned? Would a private Facebook group work? I don't really know how that works? Would that be easier to moderate?

Ben

I don't know what the overheads of running a Discord server are, but are there alternatives like a private subreddit? And just have it running as long as the tale goes on for.

As much as I'd love a discord, I get the point about the extra work load - while a small server amongst a few people is managable, longer term that doesnt scale without additional support, hence the preference for mailing address. Community interaction would be awesome, but you have to ask if the extra work is really worth it.

Discord would be very cool, I cant even start to build my army yet as I am waiting for some assault marines :( and it be cool to talk to people to get solutions on how to work around the lack of plastic assault marines.

Exactly this!

tbh while I am happy with whatever you decide I would be happier with a Discord channel as that then enables more interaction between the community. You could also have volunteer moderators that you have picked to help with the extra workload. Though I can also see this being an issue as not all people that would want to join in would want to use discord.
