Book Club: Questions submission for Battle for the Abyss and Valdor: Birth of the Imperium

2024-03-15 12:40:08 +0000 UTCQ1 - I really enjoyed the portrayal of Valdor and felt genuine sympathy for him, the sense that he knew he lacked free will and could see what the Imperium would be become. How do you think he compares against the other Primarchs in terms of narrative? I feel there is a lot more of interest there than many… but he just doesn’t seem to get the coverage. Q2 - More generally, what do you think is the best way to handle Custodes narratively? Personally I feel they suffer from inconsistent writing to serve the plot! One story portrays a single Custodian is an unstoppable one my army, while others (EodD Vol: 3) sees them getting beaten down like children.

2024-03-14 17:32:42 +0000 UTCI always loved the line in Valdor ‘If you concealed your killers in the armour of gods, then they would be worshipped even as they raised their blades.’ Seems so poignant and applicable to the rest of 30k/40k it’s almost a shame it’s buried away in a fairly obscure novella.

Is this book the only time someone accuses the Emperor of being too emotionally attached to his sons, and what does it say about Malcador that he suggested this?

Second: Of all the human characters in the series you seen so far in the series (including primarchs) who would you date, marry, kill? Question 3: you are going out with your date to Erebus' Eating Emporium, you must choose one of these appetisers: Mortarian's Morning Brew, Istvaaan Soup, The Barrel aged whiskey, Torgaddon's Mashed Potato and Garvey, Caliban beast casserole, or Megarachnid Sliders.
