Another update from The Drinker

Hello, everyone! I wanted to drop in with an update as I’m very aware that I haven’t kept my patrons up to date on my current work. Partly this has been because I’ve been so busy creating new content, which seems to be going down well.

First up, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed to the growth of my channel. To my patrons who have been with me since the beginning, my sincere thanks for believing in me. And for the more recent arrivals, welcome aboard!

But whether old or new, all of you are helping me reduce my commitments so I can devote more time to video content creation, and its very much appreciated.

So what’s next for The Critical Drinker?

Well, I’ve said before that I’m a big believer in balancing out my critical reviews with more positive content, so I’ll certainly be talking about other movies and shows I’ve enjoyed in the past, such as:

· Unforgiven (one of my fav Westerns)

· Event Horizon (a great sci-fi horror movie that never got the praise it deserved)

· Farscape (a brilliantly quirky show that seems to have been largely forgotten now)

· The Big Red 1 (a classic WW2 movie made by a man who actually fought in the war, that I think is a lot smarter than it gets credit for)

I’d also like to start a series examining movies that are traditionally looked down on or critically panned, asking “Was it really that bad?”. Right now my top candidates are:

· Watchmen (the movie, not the TV show)

· Terminator 3 (a film that looks practically Oscar worthy compared to what we get these days)

I’m also interested in challenging myself as a writer, so I thought it might be interesting to do a series called The Drinker Fixes where I try to “fix” horribly broken films or characters, outlining what’s wrong with them and how they could potentially be salvaged. Right now I’m thinking about:

· Luke Skywalker (The Last Jedi)

· Fat Thor (Endgame)

· Admiral Holdo (The Last Jedi)

But it can’t all be positive. There are things I very much want to review in the near future, specifically:

· Watchmen (the awful politically driven TV show)

· Rise of Skywalker (obviously!)

I’ll be supplementing these videos with occasional livestreams, some with guests, some just me ranting and answering your questions.

In summary then, there’s lots coming up in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned and hopefully we’ll all have a good laugh with it. And if you can think of any movies or characters you’d like to add to these lists, do let me know.

Go away now.

As you review movies that were initially panned you should review “John Carter” I always liked that movie and pretty damn good SciFi movie. I always thought they screwed up the name. Should have been “John Carter from Mars” anyway just a thought!

I agree about "UNFORGIVEN" as well.... (You MIGHT Like "Open Range" with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall, it's got the SAME gritty-real-feel ... and just this SAD sad shootout at the end. They do NOT really glamorize the shootout in "Open Range".) But yes, ......"UNFORGIVEN"? ...it's one of my very favorite modern Westerns. Richard Harris ("A Man Called Horse"???) was even in it.... as "Sideshow Bob"... er, I mean "ENGLISH BOB".... Unforgiven had a grittier / sadder more realistic feeling and Clint Eastwood did a GREAT job with it. Morgan Freeman??? There really were black cowboys.......... that's NOT merely "SJW Diversity" talking.... That's Clint Eastwoods doing.... and I do Love Gene Hackman.... What a SOLID Actor! .... and Gene is not in ANYTHING any more lately........ I think "Unforgiven" and "Enemy of The State" were a couple of his last movies. (WHERE IS Gene now???) but he is one of those GREAT but quiet actors like Harrison Ford. .... it's almost SAD to watch Bill Munny (Clint) "devolve" himself BACK into the "Killer" he used to be, drinkin' shootin' and promising to "KILL EVERYBODY" unless they just stay outta his way............. after fighting for years, to become a decent husband and father.
