September Update

Damn, it's been a while since I've done one of these - mostly because I've been pretty busy running two YouTube channels, livestreaming, writing and, of course, tearing apart crappy movies. The main channel has been growing rapidly, blowing through 900k subscribers last week, and is now on the home stretch for the the big 1 Million. 

It's also been great to watch the growing popularity of the After Hours channel, which I think is close to 130k subs now. What started out as a simple dumping ground for livestream repeats has gradually developed a personality all of its own, acting as a kind of positive counterpoint to the highly critical stuff I put on the main channel. And I think its important to have that sort of balance - it's easy to get so caught up in all the doom and gloom of modern entertainment that you end up losing perspective and struggle to find joy in anything, so After Hours is part of my solution to that. 

That's not to say I won't still be doing positive reviews and handing out Drinker Recommends when its appropriate, but if you're looking for good recommendations, especially older movies, then After Hours is always there. 

Also, people who watch my livestreams regularly may have noticed a shift over the past month or so, with the inclusion of the Open Bar show. Basically, as much as I enjoy doing the Happy Hour streams where me and a guest talk about a specific movie (and I've even managed to bring on a few subscribers for these rather than always using other content creators), the format is obviously fairly restrictive. I was interested in hosting larger panel discussions where we can talk about current events in the entertainment world, and the Open Bar was the perfect solution. I was also lucky enough to be joined by some excellent guests and co-hosts, and given how popular the first two episodes have been, I'm working behind the scenes to firm up longer-term arrangements so we can make this a regular thing. My plan is to switch between Happy Hour streams one week, and an Open Bar the next so that viewers have a choice of shows to watch. 

Obviously, none of this will get in the way of the main point of my channel, which is reviewing movies, breaking down the writing process behind them, shedding light on films which were particularly nightmarish to get made, and generally doing my best to entertain and inform. 

So I think it's fair to say that I'm being kept pretty busy these days. Sometimes this means I don't post updates on Patreon as often as I'd like, or respond to direct messages as quickly as they deserve, but rest assured that none of you have been forgotten or taken for granted. If anyone reaches out to me here, then you WILL get a response from me as quickly as I'm able.

Anyway, I think that just about covers it for this update. Stay tuned for more news and videos on both my channels, and in the meantime, keep your drinks topped up and your sense of humour intact.
