May 2020 Update

Greetings, fellow drinkers. Well, we’re almost at the end of May now, summer’s coming and… we’re kind of still stuck in our homes. Hopefully not for much longer though! 

First, I wanted to bring you all up to date on some housekeeping stuff with my channel, and outline some ideas going forward. 

1. So I’ve launched a second channel called Critical Drinker Live, where I’ll be posting all the replays for future livestreams. I’m conscious that having them hanging around on the main channel can clutter the place up and make it harder to find my scripted content, so that should be less of an issue going forward. 

2. On the subject of livestreams, I’ve been experimenting recently by covering some of my favourite movies with fans of the channel and other content creators. Hopefully people have enjoyed these talks, and I certainly find them useful because, let’s be honest, there’s only so much you can fit into a scripted video, whereas you can go into more detail on a stream. I’ll still be going general discussions with a variety of guests on the Unhappy Hour, but I thought it was interesting to mix it up with streams dedicated to specific movies.

3. In terms of guests, is there anyone in particular you’d like me to have? Most content creators are pretty approachable, so if there’s someone you think might be a good fit for the channel, let me know and I’ll see if I can make it happen. 

4. Patron-Only reviews. So one of my patrons suggested it might be good to write shorter Patron-only reviews for you guys, allowing me to cover people’s favourite movies and perhaps leading to fully produced video reviews on YouTube. Again, if this is something you’d be interested in seeing, just let me know your suggestions in the comments. 

5. I now have a merch store! I started it as kind of a laugh, but I have to admit I was surprised by the response. Obviously I don’t expect my patrons to pay the full price, so if any of you are interested in buying any of this stuff, just let me know and I’ll make sure you get a promo code for a generous discount. 

6. Over the past few months I’ve been giving away ebook copies of my Ryan Drake novels, but it just occurred to me that I probably should have started with Book 1 in the series – Redemption. Mostly I put this down to my inability to follow any kind of structure! Anyway, for those who were asking, I’ve attached it as a download to this post. Enjoy! 

Anyway, that’s pretty much the state of things. I’ve got multiple video reviews in the works, the channel is hurtling towards 400k subscribers which is amazing, and people (hopefully!) seem to be enjoying my content.
