Agree with most of this review. Visually stunning but, story wise never really figured out what it was. Plus these starfleet characters making obviously dumb decisions.
Lordy the season finale was such a letdown.

Thanks for the review. I agree with so much of what you said. For me, I think I just don't like the idea of Star Trek at war. There is nothing utopian about this series. I very much hope that the second season will be better planned, and have a single guiding voice. I watched Good Place S1 last week, and every twist and reveal was so meticulously seeded along the way, even if you didn't see it coming it didn't feel like it was out of nowhere. It was so deftly scripted, and a great example of what this show was missing in it's serial narratives. All of its twists and reveals felt so clumsy and heavy handed. They would basically reveal something, not talk about it for a couple weeks, then reveal it again and act like the first time was forshadowing. The cast is great, and I feel they have a good setup in place to start S2, with a visit to the Enterprise and a trip to Vulcan (hopefully featuring T'Pol) where the crew can kind of normalize and learn what their ship is supposed to be like (Post-Lorca).
