A bit late on this upload. Being locked up inside has slowly chipped at my artistic drive, and so I wasn't able to really put out any paintings in January. Happily, indulgent art is the best art to get that drive going.

Starting this piece was actually kind of stressful. I knew I wanted to do a piece for Lunar New Year, but I just couldn't come up with anything. I toyed with the idea of doing a duo piece with someone, sort of like those family portraits, or maybe with a whole bunch of friends - but picking out who got to be included became a problem. I only really knew one person I could call a friend who was Chinese and would share the custom with me. Luckily this just popped into my head when I scribbled some vague lines onto the canvas. Thank goodness.

I swear the ribbons were kind of a last minute addition just to add some depth and dynamism, they do add a lot to the piece, more than you might think.
