Chapter 6: Orc-san And Caravan

Three days passed since I decided to depart to the holy land to pull out the hero’s sword, the sword of oracle.

I finished my piling up office work during these three days and gave my subordinates instruction of what to do while I was absent.

The business that was related to Ork Brand’s menchi katsu had completely become a routine work, so as long as I had mixed the secret spice, I could leave the rest to other people. I made plenty of the spices before I left. Other than that I also fulfilled my promise to buy foods and medicines in the city and I had finished delivering it to the elf village.

The elves rejoiced. Tita was also grateful to me. I was happy too.

And then we were working hard with packing right now.

The place was far away from here, so it felt like this would become a long trip.

「Something like this I guess.」

「We will go on a long trip, isn’t bringing just one bag too few for that?」

「Bringing anymore than this will be just a hindrance for us.」

It wasn’t always necessarily true that bringing a lot of baggage would be better.

Caravan was a group that was made from the peddlers gathering horse carriages.

There were several merits from doing that.

First, they could optimize the number of guards that way. When going to a long journey, it was almost necessary to use guards to protect their cargo and lives from bandits and monsters, but it would be expensive if they hired guards individually.

There they formed a group. By doing that, they only needed fewer guards to protect the whole group, and they could also take shift effectively.

Also having a lot of merchants gathered like that was also meaningful. They could buy and sell products between the merchants themselves and also exchanged information.

That was why a caravan would be formed for an outing trip, and when a caravan was formed, most of the time it would also accept passengers to come along too.

That was the tenacity of the merchants. They could even turn transporting people into money.

「But, it’s a bit unexpected. Because, if it’s you Ork than you can travel safely even without using caravan. If we are moving with that many people then our arrival will also get delayed.」

It was just as she said, the demerit of caravan was that the bigger it was, the harder it would be for the group to match the pace of each other and their speed would decrease.

And then, with my strength something like guards were unnecessary. If I just wanted to arrive to my destination quickly, it would be far faster to run there by myself.

The fourth class seat was a nightmare. People were jam packed in there and they could only barely turn around.

There was no way I could let Tita sleep in that kind of place. And most of all I couldn’t possibly show such thing in front of the people who I would do business with after this.

Buying the fourth class seat was the same like announcing that I was an incompetent who couldn’t earn any money.

A merchant gained trust from how much money they could earn. They couldn’t show themselves being stingy to other.

We got on the caravan. Then after a while the caravan began to run lightly.

Tita leaned out from the window and enjoyed the scenery.

「It’s a nice scenery!」

It was the start of our long journey.

When the sun set, the caravan stopped running.

People hurriedly got down from the carriages. Especially the people riding in the third class and below. Their spot was really packed that they scrambled to get out and stretched their body.

「Uuun, I’m tired. Riding the carriage nonstop like this is tiresome.」

「Well, even this is already classified as a comfortable trip though.」

The first class didn’t just give a whole room, the quality of the carriage was also good so the shaking was fewer compared to the other carriages.

I was teaching Tita letters while we were inside the carriage.

A caravan travel would stop moving when sun set in order to avoid incident.

The caravan didn’t only consist with the caravans that departed from our city. There were also other carriages from other cities joining us along the way. There were a great variety of products being sold in the market here.

This travelling market was overflowing with various things. Enjoying that was also a charm of a caravan.

Tita’s stomach cried. She pressed her stomach shyly.

「Fuh, that’s a cute sound. Let’s go buy dinner.」

「Yep, let’s go.」

I was feeling a bit lost.

The stalls were crowded.

It seemed that there was a lot more passengers than usual this time. The merchants also got more motivated from that.

What I bought was the regional cuisine from the area that was even further east from here, malfe.

This coarsely ground sausage had a lot of spice kneaded into it, so it stimulated the appetite.

「This food is called malfe, I also like it but……I’m surprised. To think that I can eat malfe this delicious from a stall like this. This is a jackpot. Also there is a way to eat this malfe so it taste three times more delicious.」

I also bought ale together with the malfe.

It was an alcohol that was made from wheat.

The way it flowed down through your throat was delightful.

Come to think of it, the alcohol that was made from potato in the elf village was far sweeter than ale.

It seemed they had no experience with bitter alcohol like ale.

It wasn’t tasty, but felt good huh.

So she really got it. That was the goodness of ale.

「Don’t eat anymore than that, you will regret it later. Besides our trip is going to last for a week, you’re going to get tired of it if you eat too many things right away. Let’s save the fun for later too.」

There were a lot of stalls selling food and got crowded with customers, but there were also street vendor.
