Chapter 1: Fly, Orc Car

After the breakfast was over, we headed to the market.

We bought various things, mainly preserved foods and the like.

We wouldn’t have many chances to visit the holy land. If other than the necessary items there were also other interesting things like rice and the like, I wanted to buy them in large amount to stock up before leaving.

「So much luggage, you are fully intending to leave this city.」(Tita)

「Yeah, we can’t possibly stay here forever.」

I had made a lot of memories in this city.

It was simply godsend for me to be able to obtain the true sword of oracle hanging on my waist and Kururu.

But, I was a man who aimed to become the harem king.

There was no other beauty that rivaled Kururu in this city. So I had to move on to a new city.

I had been designated as the hero who pulled out the sword of oracle. Because I defeated the sealed god of disaster who even the previous heroes were unable to defeat, I became the man of the hour right now.

I was told that the big shots of this country planned to invite me to the capital, held a grand parade, and displayed me to the people.

「Eh, it will be really bad if you just stand them up like that won’t it?」(Tita)

「The hero is Oruruk remember? I’m Ork. I’ll pass that kind of troublesome thing. The only choice is to escape.」

I had also heard from the previous hero(Kaa-san) about how troublesome being a hero was. That was why I introduced myself with the fake name of Oruruk and acted as hero only while under disguise.

Like this, I would disguise myself into Oruruk’s identity only when I wanted to make use of hero’s power and influence while keeping living as I pleased as Ork during the normal time. With this I could enjoy only the good part of being a hero.

「I don’t understand. If Ork-san become the hero, you will get as much money and influence as you want. You will also become greatly popular among the girls. If you want to make a harem, then isn’t this treatment a godsend for that?」

That was partly correct.

In this world the hero was the strongest living weapon. Any country would want to have and manage the hero.

To do that, the country would properly prepare the carrot to entice the hero.

In order to keep the hero’s cooperation, the country would definitely arrange one or two top quality women to ensnare the hero.

Tita and Kururu tilted their head in puzzlement at my words.

The wise king Vareo seriously wanted to make me the next king. He had even properly recorded my name in the family tree of Forland royal family. I heard he was also making a faction to support me.

I was Ork from the orc village, but I was also Ork Forland, the fourth prince.

Well, I didn’t have any intention at all to become a king. Rather than thinking about the peace and happiness of tens of thousands of countrymen, I’d rather protect and made only the women I loved happy.

「Kururu, you are still making light of Ork’s outrageousness. In Ork’s case, even something unbelievable like that might actually be true.」

「I’m not joking in this.」

Tou-san’s name as demon king was Arcowl. It sounded a bit cool.

「You often lie before Ork-san. But, somehow your words just now sounds real. Anyway, if we seriously will leave this town, I have to make my preparation too.」

「Where are we going after this?」

「I plan to return to our mansion in the commercial city first.」

「That’s unexpected. I completely thought that Ork will immediately head to a new city to search for cute girl.」

「I don’t need any woman who isn’t the best. It will be pointless to just wander around aimlessly without any destination right? I also need to take care of my business, so I’ll return to the mansion for now and earn money while searching for the location that has the best woman.」

That commercial city was a prominent city even in this whole continent. It was possible to obtain almost everything there as long as you had money.

「Ah, so that’s your problem. I’m planning to create a workshop in my mansion. I’ll design it with Kururu’s input too. I’ll prepare first class tool for it at that time. I’ll also make the tools that you cannot buy from the market. Just take those things that your hands are accustomed to into your luggage.」

「That’s great. In that case I’ll be able to bring everything in just one large bag.」

Blacksmithing tool wasn’t just about performance. How much your hands were accustomed to those tools was also important.

……Even so, there should be a limit even if you called it a big bag. The bag that Kururu bought had the size that could be entered snugly by Kururu herself.

We proceeded with our traveling preparation.

Our movement would be tracked if the three of us used caravan, so I told the two that this time we would return using our own carriage.

I already created a carriage that was hidden in a nearby mountain.

I made it myself for around three days by occasionally slipping out of the town when I have the chance and worked on it.

It was the Orc Car that was overflowing with dream and romance.

Finally the day came we left the city.

There was always monitoring going on so that I(the hero) wouldn’t escape. That was how special the hero’s existence was.

Even today there were four soldiers watching the surrounding around Kururu’s house.

It was just before dawn right now. We would travel with carriage after we slipped out of the city, so it was better to do it when the day was bright. That was why I aimed to slip out before dawn.

「Now then, all the preparations are finished.」

「Yep, I’m ready to go anytime.」

「Me too.」

Tita and Kururu were carrying rucksack on their back.

We decided to use rucksack to carry our luggage because we were going to slip out of the city secretly……although, Kururu’s rucksack was extra big.

Tita didn’t really have much personal items with her, while Kururu’s extra large rucksack was filled to almost bursting. Their luggage couldn’t be any more different from each other.

「Then, let’s go.」

「Wait, why are you casually trying to get out from the window? You will get found out easily.」(Kururu)

「No need to worry. Hold my hands and stand in a circle you two. Yosh, let’s begin……o spirit of wind, gather on me. Wind Wrap Camouflage.」

「Eh, Tita-san vanished. Ork-san too. Even though I can still feel that I’m holding the hands of you two.」

「From my perspective, it’s Ork and Kururu who vanished from my view though.」

「I bend the visible light using a layer of wind to make us invisible. It’s a convenient magic right? Next the wind will carry us.」

This wasn’t magic or anything, just a manipulation of wind.

The wind wrapped the three of us and made us floated. And then we were carried to outside the window and flew away.

Because we were flying under invisibility, the soldiers watching outside didn’t notice us at all.

「We are flying in the sky. It feels good.」(Tita)

「We are invisible and flying in the air. They absolutely won’t catch us.」

「……It’s not absolute though. We are just not visible, but we are still where we are. A super first class swordsman will be able to sense our presence, and a super first class magician won’t get tricked by this because they are always deploying multiple tracking magic around them. In the end this is just a kid stuff to be used against opponent below first class. Well, it’s still convenient. Besides it feels good to fly in the sky right?」

「Yep, this is nice.」

「It’s a bit scare but, it’s fun.」

It seemed the two of them were pleased by the sky travel.

I smiled and continued moving to outside the city and flew toward where the carriage was hidden.

I placed the carriage near the highway and at a blind spot from the road.

I pulled off the net that was covered with grass and leaves to camouflage the carriage and opened the door.

「Stuff your luggage into here and then sit inside.」

「Hey Ork, there is the carriage here but there is no horse. Besides the wheels are strange. Their shape is also strange.」

Tita noticed the right thing.

The wheels of this carriage were using caterpillar track due to a certain reason.

「If there is no horse, then there is no point even if we have a carriage here.」(Kururu)

It was just as the two said. This carriage had no horse.

The reason was…….

「That’s because this carriage doesn’t need anything like that. Horse is slow, their energy consumption is bad, and the water and fodder for them will also reduce the space for our luggage. It’s troublesome to take care of them, and they will get tired easily. I don’t feel like using them at all.」

Horse was thought as fast, but the fact was actually different.

Certainly they could reach the speed of 80 km/hour if they sprinted at full speed while not carrying anything. In exchange, they would get exhausted after one minute and couldn’t move anymore.

But, if they pulled carriage with a pace that wouldn’t tire them out, 20 km/hour would be their limit in general. Even then they would need to rest every two or three hours.

「Then, how is this thing will move?」(Tita)

「Well, just get in first. You will understand after that.」

「I have nothing but premonition.」

「I’m scary that I’m getting used to this kind of thing.」(Kururu)

I grinned and sat at the driver seat.

There was a crystal console there.

When I poured my magic power into  it, a high pitched sound *uiiinn* rang out.

This carriage……no, this car was equipped with a magic powered motor that I developed.

The mechanism was extremely simple. The motor would rotate when I poured magic power into it. It would move the interlocking gears, rotate the shaft, and then it would turn the wheel and made the caterpillar track ran.

The mechanism itself was something really simple at the level of mini four-wheel drive. That simplicity made it highly reliable and efficient.

By the way it could only run straight forward due to its sloppy design, so I would need to ask the wind spirits to assist with the change in direction. If I floated the car and hit it from the side with wind before putting it down on the ground again, the car would be able to change direction instantly.

I would be able to make it turn direction properly if I had more time and facility, but this was my limit here.

My handmade magic powered vehicle Orc Car began to run.

「Eh, this thing is fast-」

「Kyaaaaa, Fuu fuu, somehow I can understand its mechanism but, this thing, is strange, how can it run so easily on a bad road like this?」

「As expected from Kururu, you can understand the structure of the motor and gears. It can travel through the bad road thanks to the caterpillar track.」

There was a reason why I was using caterpillar tracks instead of normal tires.

In this era, the road pavement was sloppy. Not to mention we were inside a forest right now. Normal wheel wouldn’t be able to turn properly.

But, if it was caterpillar track then it was possible to travel through bad road.

That was the reason tank was using caterpillar track.

「No matter how bumpy the road is, caterpillar tracks will always maintain its shape so it will be able to travel through it, and it also reduce the shaking. In exchange it increase the wheels’ contact surface area and with it the friction, and the caterpillar tracks are also heavy on their own, so it has the demerit of speed drop. But, something like that can be overcome with brute force.」

I could just pour in a large amount of my excessive magic power.

Orc Car rushed through the forest’s soft soil and mud and many rocks and the thick grasses that grew until the knee’s height and reached the main road.

Yeah, as expected of you, Orc Car.

「This is absurd.」

「I’m feeling really thrilled as a blacksmith.」

After reaching the highway, the street’s condition had become dramatically better.

The Orc Car could reach the speed of 50 km/hour at average when I poured a normal amount of my magic power into it.

It was four times faster than horse carriage.

「The wind feels really good when we are moving this fast.」 (Tita)

「The riding comfort is also good. I don’t want to ride normal carriage anymore after this.」

It seemed the two of them got used to it after the Orc Car had ran for a while.

……I guess it was time.

「You two still haven’t seen everything that this guy has. There is only the main road with good paving around this area……I can liberate Orc Car’s true power in this situation. With a single push. Fly away, Orc Car!」

I pushed a button.

Then incision entered the caterpillar tracks and they quickly got put away into the car frame. The car changed from using caterpillar tracks to tires to run.

Caterpillar tracks showed its worth when moving through a bad road, but if the road surface became better, it would be far faster by using tires.

With the reduction of the contact surface with the ground, the friction was drastically lessened and the Orc Car accelerated drastically.

「Kyaaaaaa, fast, too fast」

「This is scary, just how fast this thing can go!?」(Kururu)

「Hmm, my rough guess is around 80 km/hour. As expected, it feels good to go fast like this.」

I’m glad that I created this vehicle.

We could save time if our travelling time was short. And most of all, this was fun.

We passed through between moving horse carriages one after another.

The travelling merchants that we passed all opened their eyes wide wondering what happened.

Now, let’s enjoy the drive until we arrived at the city.

I also wanted to try putting on the maximum speed of this thing somewhere on the way. Speed of 80 km/hour wouldn’t tire me and it also didn’t really burden the car frame.

If I only played for a bit, it surely wouldn’t be damaged even if exerted all my strength.

Let’s aim to enter the world of 100 km/hour.
