Chapter 4: Orc Blend, For Those Who Enjoyed Difference

Inside the pouch that I carried around with me, there was also the powder of the imitation coffee put inside a bottle.

It was the instant coffee that could be dissolved in hot water and drank right away.

I always brought it around with me because I didn’t know when the timing for after-sex morning coffee would come to visit me.

Thanks to such preparedness, I was able prepare the after-sex morning coffee for my first night with Tita and also my first night with Kururu.

I quickly put the powder into the cup that prepared and poured hot water from a pot.

「That powder become the herb tea that is similar with cohilk……this is astonishing, the preparation is very simple.」

Zacharic was watching with deep interest.

Something like instant coffee didn’t exist in this world, so this must be very unusual.

「You won’t be able to make it taste delicious without using a special technique and spending time to process it. But even after going through that much troubles, the taste and scent will drop compared to simply brewing it normally. Although there is nothing that can replace this simplicity in preparation. There is also the merit of how it’s possible to produce a great amount of it in one sitting and preserve it for a long time.」

I didn’t have time to extract and mix the components every single time I wanted to make the drink. Especially this Orc Blend that tasted like coffee even without the actual coffee bean, making this blend really took time and effort.

That was why, when I had time I gathered a lot of the dozens of ingredients, extracted the components from them all at the same time and then mixed them all in large amount.

There was a total of 100 kilogram imitation coffee sleeping in my mansion’s basement.

It was convenient for me like that, and I would be able to mix the ingredients to taste tastier when there was a lot of it.

In case I was only making a hundred gram of coffee, if I put the wrong amount of ingredient by ten gram, that would mean a ten percent measurement error. Even fine adjustment below one percent was easy.

That was the reason why stew and curry that was made in a great amount in one sitting would taste better.

「It’s done.」

The imitation coffee with appearance and aroma that were exactly like coffee was finished.

「Hou……let’s see. This is, good. It’s by no means inferior to my company’s cohilk……although there is some difference, that is just the matter of individual preference……and this one is made from powder that is dissolved into hot water, while ours first need filter to be set in the dispenser, the beans to be grinded and steamed before the hot water can be poured. Considering their convenience as product, our cohilk is no match at all against this.」

It was quite troublesome to brew coffee from coffee bean.

No household would want to put that much effort just to make coffee.

But, that didn’t mean that coffee that was made from the bean was inferior against instant coffee.

「For middle class household and below, they will definitely pick the one that is easier to make. But, it’s just as I said before this, the coffee’s taste and scent has dropped because it’s turned into powder like this. I think that restaurant that serves this drink or high class customers will definitely choose to purchase the roasted bean.」

Even at Japan of my previous life, there was sufficient demand for the coffee beans.

There was also a category of customer who wouldn’t be reluctant to spend effort if it was for the sake of taste.

「……Just now, you said roasted bean. I don’t remember ever telling you Ork-kun that the cohilk’s bean was roasted first before it was brewed. So you already knew about cohilk’s existence.」

「Yes, I called it coffee. In the past, I once drank it during my time travelling all over the world for my martial art training. I mixed my herb tea based on my memory of that time.」

He wouldn’t believe me even if I told him that I didn’t know about cohilk at this point of time, so I honestly told him the truth.

「Fumu. ……I want to ask you a question. If you are that man’s disciple, you must have noticed that cohilk can become money. Then why have you never done a business with cohilk until now?」

The palate of the people of this world and my previous life was similar. That had been proved from Ork Brand’s menchi katsu.

Coffee was something that had explosively spread out throughout the world in my previous life. There was no doubt that it would also become popular if it was sold here.

「Cohilk. No, allow me to call it coffee. I actually had plan to do business with that……but, not now. I was waiting for the right time. My company is still small. Something that was the extension of something ordinary could be accepted by people relatively easily.

If a giant organization didn’t spend money and time and effort to popularize the product, it would only end as a famous product of a single city.

I had cultivated such sense from the lesson of the god of merchant.

「And when is this right time that you are waiting for?」

「The right time will be when a large company somewhere discovered coffee and start selling it in large scale. With my strength, I won’t  be able to make coffee pervade into the society at large. That’s why I’d leave the work until that point to someone else. And then when coffee has pervaded into the society, I’ll sell a large amount of coffee powder that has better quality, cheaper, and more convenient than that company’s coffee. By doing that, I’ll be able to snatch the market share instantly and my company’s coffee will become the classic example of coffee. I’ll be able to continue profiting from coffee for my whole life after that.」

In such case, because there would be a limit of how much coffee I would be able to supply by myself, I would need to join hand with some other company.

「Don’t you think, that thinking is too optimistic? There was also a possibility that no company would ever discover cohilk. If that happen, the business chance will never come to you forever.」

I shook my head slowly.

「That’s impossible. Something that I can find by chance will never stay hidden forever. ……Besides, it’s fine even if nobody ever find out about it. Several years from now when my own company has gotten bigger, it should become possible for me to make coffee pervade into society with my own strength. Either way is fine for me.」

Zacharic’s face twitched slightly. After that he broke into a smile.

「Kuhahahah, I see, as expected from that man’s disciple. Interesting, interesting, you are really a good merchant. You really have good discernment despite your youth. But, that raise another question instead, why are you telling me that now? If you have already drawn such plan in mind, telling it to me will only make everything come into nothing.」

If it was Zacharic, he would be able to prepare as many countermeasures as he wanted if he knew what I was going to do.

The feasibility of this plan had been reduced to nearly zero after I spoke about it like this.

「That’s simple. Rather than making profit from this coffee, giving up on that and obtaining your trust will lead me to obtain even greater profit later on.」

「It seems you are really estimating me highly.」

「After all you are the only rival of my teacher. Besides I also have trust in you. That you will deeply appreciate the fact that I have discarded the business chance of coffee for your sake.」

Zacharic held out his hand.

「Yes, I deeply appreciate that. And so, let’s exchange another handshake. I wish to do business with you genuinely. I recognize you Ork-kun as an equal merchant.」

「Yes, it’ll be my pleasure.」

I shook Zacharic’s hand firmly.

……Fuu, with this I avoided getting into hostility with Zacharic.

I never thought that I would fall into a pinch so suddenly just because of coffee.

「Allow me to leave my seat for a bit. I wish to present you a simple token to repay your favor to me.」

「Then I shall accept it without reservation.」

It would be rude instead to refuse here.

Zacharic stood up from his chair and left me alone with Tita.

「Ork, you’re amazing, you were thinking that far with just coffee alone.」

Tita was looking at me with a gaze of respect.

I smiled wryly and used magic so that no sound would escape just in case before I opened my mouth.

「Aa, all of that was just me blurting whatever come to mind. I made the imitation coffee because it was my hobby. I didn’t have any plan of using it for business. But, by telling that person that, I was able to erase his worry, and I also managed to earn his trust right? That story was quite coherent for something that I made up on the spot.」

「Uwaa, Ork you, you are amazing but, that’s just really like you Ork.」

Tita was looking at me with a reproachful gaze.

Either way, I not only managed to avoid getting considered as enemy by Zacharic, I even managed to tie even stronger friendship with him.

I was able to instantly make up a story on the spot like this and said it brazenly was also thanks to my teacher.

Bluff was a merchant’s weapon.

I thanked my teacher while deciding that one day I would come to Randall Company with a profitable scheme to repay him.

If I cooperated with Zacharic Company, my company wouldn’t be just a generic face in the crowd anymore. Surely I would be able to show myself in front of my teacher as a fully-fledged merchant with my head held high.
