Chapter 6: Ork-san Running Full Speed on the Path to be Billionaire

Three months had passed since that business negotiation.

Instant coffee, or rather, instant cohilk had been started to be sold since last month. I received the first margin three months ago.

And then today I was going to inspect the factory that was making sugar that would be my main business.

The sweet beet plantation had only just started planting the seedling, but the factory was already finished.

Because of that, sweet beets that were purchased from the market were brought to the factory and the factory was already running full tilt.

「I’m worried whether they device that we created is working properly.」

I also asked Kururu to help out in creating the necessary device for making sugar. It became a good training for her, and it was really hard to make such complicated and huge device by myself.

Without Kururu, the factory still wouldn’t operate even now.

We arrived at the factory.

It had the huge size for hundreds of people to work in it. Smoke was billowing up from the chimney.

「This is a big factory.」(Tita)

「Originally it was a wine factory that had vineyard next to it. Thanks to that it has a splendid building and it was easy to remodel it to become sugar factory. It also has a large farmland nearby. Furthermore it’s near to the city, and it also has proper road with good maintenance in front of it. This factory fulfilled all the requirements wonderfully.」

This factory and farmland were found using Zacharic Company’s power.

There was no better place than this for making a sugar factory.

「But still, if this business is really that profitable, you should do it by yourself Ork. With the current contract you will be able to earn profit from the sugar manufacturing fee aren’t you?」

Tita who had understood about business now asked me.

「If I can do everything by myself than doing it alone will be better. But it’s impossible. First, I didn’t have the fund to obtain large scale plantations and building a factory. This factory belong to me, but the money to build it came from the loan of Zacharic Company. Besides, even if you have money you still need connection and information network to be able to obtain good land, and it’s impossible to obtain good workers in sufficient number to work in the plantations and factory on my own. Even though I’m able to create sugar, I don’t have the power to distribute it in large scale, and if a small company is selling sugar with cheap price, the large companies will exert their pressure to crush that company. Because of that, to do a business this big, it will be hopeless unless you collaborate with a big company.」

Even though I had knowledge from my previous life, without a suitable organizational power, I wouldn’t be able to do anything big. Doing it in small scale would only invite the big players to crush me.

There were also countless hurdles other than what I mentioned just now.

When I considered the effort needed to take care of them one by one, collaborating with a big company right from the start was the better choice.

It was the most efficient way to cozy up with a big company and obtain the maximum amount of profit from there.

The result from the collaboration this time was superb. If I actually tried to do the sugar business myself, no matter how hard I worked I would only be able to earn a tenth of my current earning.

Use everything that could be used. Grasp what you could do and couldn’t do. You couldn’t be called a first class merchant if you couldn’t do those two things thoroughly.

「Doing business is difficult.」

Around two hundred people were working in this factory. Assembly-line system was thoroughly enforced here.

People whose job was only washing sweet beet, people who were only cutting sweet beet, people who were only putting the sliced ingredient into the device, people who were only operating the device, people who were taking out the sugar crystals and breaking them down, people who were only packing the sugar, etc, etc.

Everyone was only doing extremely simple work that they repeated endlessly.

In this era, one person doing everything when making a single thing was the common method. For example when creating clothes, buying the fabric, designing, shaping, cutting, embroidering, all those works would be done by one person alone in turn.

We moved to the break room after taking a look at everything. And then the factory manager opened a bag that was filled with sugar and poured the content on a plate.

「President Ork, this is the sugar that is created in this factory.」

「Thank you. Tita, Kururu, want to give it a taste?」

We ended the inspection with a tasting.

The mainstream sugar in the market was unrefined brown sugar. Separating the molasses from the sugar took effort, furthermore doing that would reduce the final amount, so many people intentionally didn’t do that. However here we were deliberately making white sugar. Unlike brown sugar that had strong peculiarity in its taste, white sugar had refined and meek taste and it was easy to use.

Also its quality was better than the traditional sugar and it was cheaper. Because of that it was sold as a completely new type of sugar. Like that it became easier for my sugar to leave an impression due to its different appearance.

Besides the molasses could be sold separately as molasses, so my earning didn’t decrease.

「Uwaa, the sugar is smooth and it’s melting in my mouth. It’s really sweet and tasty.」(Tita)

「This is great. This sugar, it’s far better than what I heard in rumor. What a luxury to be able to eat high class sugar anytime like this. Even the nobles can’t do that easily.」

「It’s not a luxury at all if you recall the ingredient for this.」

Because we were using the sweet beets that were sold in the market, the cost price was higher than my original estimate. But even after the cost was added with the labor cost and the interest from the money that Zacharic Company loaned to me, the final price was just slightly above ten percent of the traditional sugar’s price.

Zacharic Company was already starting to sell the sugar that was created here.

It was priced half of the traditional sugar. I heard that the products were flying off the shelves. The cost amount was just a tenth of the traditional sugar’s price, but there was no need to be naively honest and sold it with a tenth of the price too. Even selling it in half the price of the traditional sugar had left a considerable impact to the market.

「Manager, show me the shipping amount and the income and expenditure.」

「Here it is.」

Every day sweet beets were brought to the factory in the amount that was to the limit of this factory’s capacity. The processing cost for that was steadily paid to us. With this pace, I would be able to completely pay back the money that was loaned to me for building this factory in less than two months. ……Even so this factory was working a bit too well. The amount that was produced could be easily sold even though the factory was working in full capacity. It wouldn’t be long before a demand to build a new factory would come.

「Manager, has there been anything strange?」

He averted his gaze for a moment there. Furthermore he looked awkward.

I had placed a spy in this factory to monitor the going on here. It was to prevent diversion of sugar into illegal channels and the leak of the production method.

Other companies had already determined that the new sugar was created here. They were taking every measure to learn the production method. I received a report that a part of those measures was bribing the factory manager.

I was half in doubt about the report’s veracity, but looking at his attitude convinced me.

I hired this factory manager because I thought he could be trusted, but as expected human was weak when they were givne a glimmer of great amount of money.

I made the production device to be a black box and the production method of making sweet beet into sugar wouldn’t leak out, even so there was high enough possibility that this manager would dirty his hand with illegally diverting sugar in the future.

I should strengthen my monitoring here. This man was skilled and someone hard to come by, so I’d tolerate him earning some extra money as long as it didn’t harm me, but I decided to cut him off mercilessly the moment he crossed the line.

「Now then, we have finished the inspection. Let’s go home.」

I shouldered a single sugar bag that was filled to the brim with sugar.

It was a souvenir. With this I would be able to create a lot of delicious sweets.

I had created sweets even before this, but sugar’s price was regrettably high at that time, so I compensated for the sweetness using honey or fruits.

But, from now I would be able to use sugar to my heart’s content.

「In the contract, the amount of sugar we have to supply to Zacharic Company based on the amount of sweet beet given to us has been decided. We are free to do anything we want with the extra amount from that. Though we are forbidden to circulate it into the market. I’ll make sweets with a lot of sugar using this when we are home.」

In the contract my company was forbidden from selling sugar, but there was no problem if we used it to enjoy ourselves.

When writing the contract, I decided the amount of sugar I had to hand over so that there would be some degree of buffer. If the sugar production ran normally, there would be some amount left over.

The leftover was there as insurances in case there was some production failure or the like, and also for my own hobby.

……I also prepared a loophole in the contract with Zacharic. Even though I was forbidden to sell sugar, I wasn’t forbidden to sell something that was made from processing sugar.

For example, when the amount of leftover sugar started to pile up, it would be possible for me to do something like selling sweets that were made with a lot of sugar.

「That feels a bit dishonest but, I can’t win against the sugar’s temptation……sweets that are made with a lot of sugar, I can’t wait.」

「Look forward to it.」

I did cooking training in order to become popular with women. There was no way I hadn’t mastered sweets making when sweets was more popular among women than normal dish.

I shall display my world level patissier skill to them.

「Then, let’s go home.」

「Ah, let me help out with the sweets making too. I want to be able to make that kind of things.」(Tita)

「That sounds interesting. I also want to try making sweets.」

That’s nice.

Cheerfully making sweets with beautiful girls.

Surely that would be far more delightful compared to making sweets alone, and the result would definitely be far more delicious too.
