Orc Harem Vol 4 Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Patissier Orc-san

.

I realized a truth.

Even the wise king would talk really long like a normal grandpa.

I never thought that the luncheon would last for three hours.

I came to the kitchen.

Rurine was acting separately from me to do her daily training. That girl idolized the hero of azure thunder, Mireille Forland. She assigned the same training like Kaa-san to herself.

Her strength was first class even from what I saw. She made me felt that in the future she would be able to reach the domain of super first class.

But, she wouldn’t be able to reach the class of outrageous monster. She couldn’t become like the transcendental existences in the hero party or the demon lord’s four heavenly kings.

She was working hard. She also had talent. She lived in the optimum environment to learn coupled with ideal teacher to learn from. But, all of those weren’t enough to obtain strength that break through the limit.

Tita was accompanying her in her training.

Tita was the priestess of the tribe of wind protector that protected the world tree. Because of that she had received education for the gifted since her childhood. Her skill in magic and archery was equal to first class practitioner.

Exactly because of that, she was interested with the highest quality of training that human received.

「I’m excited what kind of sweets Ork-san will make.」

Kururu and I were borrowing the kitchen.

It was to create the sweets that I promised to make.

「Kururu, you aren’t going to join the training?」

「I’m not good with that kind of thing. Rather than doing training by halves that only act as stopgap, I want to master blacksmithing more.」

She was carrying with her the book of Everything About Blacksmithing: Advanced Edition. It was the advanced version of the book containing the minimum excerpt of the necessary knowledge for forging divine sword that I handed to her in the sword’s holy land in the past.

She had already mastered the intermediate version. The average blacksmith wouldn’t be able to comprehend the book even if they studied it for ten years, but she finished it in just one month.

She learned it not only as theory, but also as practical skill.

She too was a genius. She would be able to step into the territory of the transcendental if it was in the field of blacksmithing.

「That’s true……rather than Kururu yourself getting streonger, having you making weapon for Tita and me might be better for us.」

「Fufuh, that’s right. If I make use of the new knowledge that I obtained from this advanced version, I’ll be able to create a bow for Tita-san. Tita-san is able to use both bow and magic after all. I want to make a bow like Ork-san’s sword, a bow that possess the function of both wand and bow!」

「That’s awesome.」

Tita was training in archery even now. But, it was unwieldy and she couldn’t bring it around in the city, so she didn’t have it with her.

「Please look forward to it……this advanced version is really deep. I might need some time to finish this.」

「Well, it’s the advanced version after all. Originally it should take a blacksmith their whole life to master it.」

「That means I have to give it my all to learn this huh-!」

The intermediate version was easy skill-wise, but more than that it was actually completely focused on techniques that were related with sword. That was why it was easy for me to organize the lesson, and each technique was strongly related with each other.

But the advanced version was different. It covered everything about blacksmithing, therefore the material was vast, deep, and the skill tree was spread out all over the place. I organized the material as ingeniously that I could, but the book couldn’t be said as easy to understand even as flattery.

Even so…….

「It won’t take that long if it’s you Kururu.」

I could believe that would be the case if it was this genius who was doing it.

……I wanted to let Kururu to use the room of time’s interval too at least once.

It was a type of magic that even I was still unable to use. Let’s try to ask the great sage Merlin Enlight for that if I had the chance to meet him.

「Ahaha, as expected I’m unable to say that I’ll manage to learn all these right away. But-, I’ll do my best- ……But, there is just one problem for that.」

「What’s that?」

「I get the desire to reforge the sword that I forged for Ork-san each time I learn a new technique.」

「I think this sword is already the best though. I can say that this sword is better than even Kaa-san’s sword without exaggeration. I was shocked when I first saw it. I didn’t expect that Kururu was able to make something at this level.」

I wasn’t flattering her.

It could only be called a miracle that something this good could be created from Kururu’s skill.

「That’s, its, it was because I put a lot of my love toward Ork-san into it……wait, just what are you making me say-. Geez, please don’t divert from the topic.」

It wasn’t like I was doing anything to divert the topic.

「Umm, that sword has miraculous quality. But, that’s only the case for the me at that time. Ork-san has taught me a lot of things since then. I too have thought of various things by myself and grew up from before.」

「Of course you are. But, it will be like getting trapped in a swamp after that you know? After all you will want to reforge the sword each time you learn a new technique in that case.」

「C-certainly. But, that too is good in its own way. I want Ork-san to have the best sword that I can forge at that time. ……If I knew that things will become like this, I should bring a lot more Orichalcum from that mine.」

The hardest metal orichalcum that only existed in the sword’s holy land.

We had brought out quite the amount of it from the mine there, but the amount would be insufficient if Kururu wanted to use it like that.

「Let’s go play at the holy land again later. The duck dish there was delicious anyway.」

「That’s a promise! And so, I’ll work hard studying. Please do your best in making the sweets too.」

「You aren’t going to help?」

「I want to eat delicious sweets-!」

If it was translated, she didn’t want to help me because leaving the sweets making to me alone would result in more delicious sweets.

Certainly that was how it was in making sweets.

It would be a different story if we were just making simple sweets, but the more complicated and detailed the sweets that was made, the greater the taste would drop just from a little bit of blunder.

Sweets was something delicate. For example, just the factors of room temperature and humidity could change the time needed to bake the sweets and the number of times to stir the mix.

I smiled wryly while taking out the fruit that  I found in the capital.

「I never saw this fruit before.」

「It’s no wonder. You can’t obtain this fruit except at a warmer region. You need to cross the sea to get this fruit. I once heard that this fruit is also brought to the commercial city, but it’s too popular that it doesn’t enter the market. This fruit’s name is mango.」

It was also called as the golden fruit.

It had rich flavor and high class sweetness. It was truly a fruit with noble flavor.

This fruit was also popular in the world of my previous life, but eating this fruit in this world would become a special status for the eater. It had absurdly premium price in the noble society.

「It has nice smell-. The aroma feels warm somehow.」

「This is a fruit from southern country after all. I’m a bit nervous. This fruit is expensive, and you never know when you will be able to get it.」

「It must be really expensive if even Ork-san said that it’s expensive.」

「Well, how should I asy it, this mango──the price of just one of it is around 400,000 gil.」

「400,000 gil!? Are you stupid!? Just for a mere fruit, err, inside the basket, there are, five of them……eh, that means, just this many fruits cost two million gil. Kyuuuuuuuuuu─」

Kururu’s fox ears flopped down and her eyes were twirling.

By the way, in this country you could buy bread or apple if you had 100 gil. Generally one gil was worth around one yen.

「It’s expensive but, I really don’t know when I will have the chance to buy it again if I don’t buy it right away. I told you right? In the first place this fruit doesn’t even circulate in the market because the nobles are monopolizing it. Due to the mess this time, a certain noble ended up cancelling a party and he got too many of this fruit in his possession. Lucky for us.」

I wouldn’t buy this fruit if I hadn’t made a killing from sugar and coffee.

Not only it was expensive, it didn’t even circulate in the market. I couldn’t let go of this chance.

「Uuu, Ork-san’s sense of money is absolutely strange. With two million gil, a single family can live for the whole year in quite a luxury.」

「Then, you aren’t going to eat this Kururu? You aren’t interested? This is a fruit that noble would pay 400,000 gil just for one of it.」

「Obviously I’ll eat! It’s mysterious that the fruit look even more delicious than before after hearing the price.」

I smiled wryly while peeling the skin.

As expected from an item that should be purchased by a certain major noble, the mangoes were ripe, had good quality, and they were also still in good condition.

I’d be able to create the best sweets with this.

「But, why is this fruit that expensive?」

「Because it can only be taken from the other side of the ocean. Not only that, this fruit can also rot easily. It can only last for two weeks after it get plucked from the tree. If you want to transport this fruit using ship until the capital within two weeks, you can’t take any detour during the voyage and has to pass an extremely dangerous sea route on the way……it’s a route where one of three ships would definitely sink if they pass through there. The price of the ship and the life of the sailors are also included in this fruit’s price. Considering that, don’t you think that 400,000 gil is cheap?」

Steel ship still hadn’t been invented here. There was no steam engine and the ship moved by relying on wind and manual labor.

In such situation, they sailed through the stormy sea and also place where even monsters were living.

The ship would need a lot of personnel for such voyage. They would also risk their life.

The monsters were especially bad news. They liked to eat creature with magic power circulating in their body. The sailors on board of the ship were like beacon that was attracting them.

The cunning species would aim at the bottom of the sea and sunk the ship before devouring the sailors.

There was nothing that could be done if the monsters aimed at the bottom of the ship. They couldn’t even counterattack. Although the bottom of the ship was reinforced with metal as the minimum countermeasure, there was a limit because the ship wouldn’t be able to move if it was too heavy for wind and manual labor to move it.

In the first place it was already a hell difficulty to fight sea monster at sea.

The merchant would obtain outrageous profit if their trade using ship succeeded, but they would be ruined if their ship sank. It was an absurd gamble.

That was exactly why the merchandises that couldn’t be obtained in this continent were traded with outrageous price.

「That’s certainly really risky. I’ll absolutely refuse to board that kind of ship unless I’m paid with a loot of money.」

「That’s right, that’s why the personnel in advanced position is receiving absurd wage, while they use slaves for the simple labor.」

「But, don’t you smell money from this situation Ork-san?」

「……Hou, so you notice that.」

「If a ship that absolutely won’t sink and can sail safely through such route is created, the creator will make a killing.」

It was truly the viewpoint of a blacksmith, at the same time it also told me how wide Kururu’s field of vision had expanded.

「I want to do that kind of business in the future. For example, how about making a steel ship. Even if there is monster trying to take a bite, the ship will have thick steel that cannot be broken as its bottom.」

「Something like that will be too heavy and can’t sail at all.」

「We can just change the driving force. We can turn magic power into moving power, or there might be better way for it.」

Steam engine. I wanted to try making it one day.

But, as expected that would be something for even further in the future.

「It feels like it will be fun to think up that kind of invention.」

Kururu was starting to immerse herself in her thought.

I focused in making sweets while glancing at that.

The tastiest way to eat mango.

Without a doubt it was by eating it raw.

Eating it raw without doing any strange trick to it was the best……unfortunately that was the undisputable truth.

If the mango had bad quality than it would be tastier to process it, but a mango of this quality would be the tastiest when eaten as it was.

I cut the mangoes. They were big, so I arranged the pieces to look like flower like the fruit arrangement that I often saw in photo or movie in my previous life.

First I cut the mango into three. I put incisions uniformly at the left and right pieces and pushed the skin. The result was the pieces of mangoes getting piled up in the shape of dice to look like yellow flower.

Yep, it looked good.

They looked really delicious. It was also easy to eat. The dice shaped place with skin sticking on it could be easily scooped with spoon to be eaten.

「So cute. It looks like a beautiful yellow flower. Slurp. The sweet aroma hit even harder inside me after the skin is peeled. I can’t hold back myself.」

Kururu was lured by the aroma and lifted her face. She was drooling.

「Right? No wonder the nobles are fighting each other to get this.」

And then I started with the second and third mangoes.

Even if the best way to eat it was eating it as it was, it would be more fun to have variation when eating it.

The center piece of the mango that was split into three couldn’t be cut evenly to be used in the flower arrangement, so I used it to make sweets.

First I crushed half of it into a paste shape. I cut the remaining half into small pieces.

I added fresh juice with strong sourness that I had created beforehand to half of the paste shaped mango. In addition I threw in the small pieces of mango and melted gelatin into the mix. Then I lightly stirred the mix before pouring them into a transparent glass.

Then I put the glass into a handmade steel box that was filled with ice to chill it.

It was finished with this. What I created was mango jelly. This mango was ripe mango. Its sweetness was strong but its sourness was a bit lacking. Although it was really delicious, it was also easy to get bored from eating it too much.

That was why, I made the mango jelly by adding sourness into it like this.

「Is it finished with that?」

「Well yeah, it’s more delicious if you don’t process it too much.」

I started with the third sweets.

The second sweets was something balanced with the sourness so that the eater wouldn’t get tired of eating the mangoes.

That was why I was going to the opposite direction with the third sweets.

I would make the rich and noble sweetness of mango to be even more conspicuous.

I added milk and sugar to the mango paste before heating it while paying attention so that it wouldn’t boil.

「The mango’s aroma is getting stronger when it’s heated.」(Kururu)

「Yeah, this aroma is really striking home.」

After all the ingredients had been mixed thoroughly, I turned off the fire and added egg yolk, fresh cream, mango paste that hadn’t been heated up, and also small pieces of mango, then I stirred the ingredients to mix them.

「The preparation is finished with this.」

I placed this mix that I had created just now into an iron container, then placed that container into a bowl that was filled with salt water and ice and chilled it.

In addition I requested water spirits to stir the inside of the iron container so that it would be saturated with air.

By chilling it while continuously stirring the inside, I finished making a gelato.

The gelato that had gentle texture and smoothly melted in the mouth was delicious, but it was troublesome to chill it while saturating it with air. It was easy for me because I requested the water spirits to do it for me.

The third sweets was richly flavored mango gelato.

「Now we need to wait one hour before it’s finished.」

「Ah, then can I ask questions while waiting? There are several places that I don’t understand.」

「Yeah, I don’t mind.」

Recently I didn’t have time to accompany Kururu in her study.

Let’s confirm Kururu’s growth while waiting for the sweets to finish.

Kururu’s questions were precise and she also probed deeply into the techniques that she learned. I was impressed.

「You are even more spirited than usual.」

「Fufufuh, do you know, sweet things taste delicious after you have worked your brain hard! That’s why I’m working my head even more than usual now.」

She huffed while making a smug face.

I laughed.

Certainly that was true.

「If you are working this hard because of that, then perhaps I should prepare snacks for after Kururu finish studying from here on.」

「Ork-san you are a god!」

It wouldn’t be bad to make sweets every day.

I didn’t hate making sweets, and it would be worth it to go through the effort if Kururu was this happy from it.
