Chapter 12: Linear Motor Train Should Have Been Completed Thirty Years Ago

After flirting with Rurine at the morning and finished eating breakfast, we immediately departed in Orc Car.

Sadly, based from the location of the commercial city, Forland  Kingdom and my birthplace are located at the opposite sides. It’ll take a  lot of time to travel the distance.

The travel distance is around 600 km.

The distance of 600 km is about the same distance of Tokyo until  Aomori. Naturally, the roads in between are unpaved roads. A normal  horse carriage will take one month to travel that. As expected, even for  Orc Car this travel will become a harsh one.

That’s how it should be, but.

The expression of Kururu who is holding the steering stick stiffened in nervousness.

「What is this Orc Car Hover Mode!?」

The cause is the vehicle’s speed that is incomparable than normally.

We’re gliding in low altitude rather than running.

「Aa,it’s one of Orc Car’s seven tools.」

Orc Car’s other name is Orc GOGOGO. Naturally it has seven tools just like the one it is based on.

Rocket booster for emergency, orc cannon, aqua aquarium, underwater  mode transformation, etc had been showed. This is her first time seeing  hover mode.

「The car’s efficiency is bad when going through a bad road right? It doesn’t matter how big the tires it’s using.」

When going through off-road, it takes time and the fuel consumption  is also bad. It consumes three times more mana then when going through  on-road.

This hovering is to avoid that.

By doing this, it doesn’t matter whether the road is bad or not.

「It feels really disquieting because I don’t even know how the car is  floating. No matter how I think about it, the fuel consumption should  be the worst to make something this heavy float, and yet my mana isn’t  being absorbed that much.」

「Aa, that’s why Ork-san told me to run above the leyline. But, in that case how is this car going forward?」

「The car frame is divided into several blocks. The car is moving by switching the recoil and attraction in high speed.」

As expected from Kururu. She got it just from this crude explanation.

In principle, it’s the same with linear motor train that used magnetic force.

Leylines are stretching around everywhere in order to circulate mana  all over the world, but there aren’t that many thick leylines that are  called as the main streams.

「Thank god there is a thick leyline conveniently stretching from Forland Kingdom until Ork-san’s birthplace.」

「Well, it’s not a coincidence though.」

「Eh, what do you mean?」

「After Kaa-san married Tou-san, she was living in Forland Kingdom for  a while due to various things like inheritance and the like. The great  sage Merlin Enlight presented a magic tool for teleportation that  connect Forland Kingdom with my village as wedding present but……the tool  need to make use of the flow of leyline to function, so he created the  leyline at that time apparently.」

「D-don’t tell me, he artificially laid out a leyline for wedding present!?」

「Rather than laying out, it was more that he bundled several thin  streams together while maintaining them. It’s an outrageous story.」

Other than that great sage, nobody would ever get the idea of adding to the word’s mana circulation system with human hand.

「Can’t we slow down the speed!?」

「Impossible. The magic formula of the system to switch the attraction  and recoil is too complicated and too fast. There isn’t any room to  include something troublesome like speed adjustment.」

The system for this super fast switching really took a lot of hard work to finish.

It was too hard that just implementing it used up all of my strength.

I reached toward the red button with background of yellow and black stripes around it that is placed near the passenger seat.

It’s that thing that was really useful even at sea.

「Yep, the emergency rocket booster. And so everyone, grab on something near you tightly.」

Kururu is clinging on the steering wheel with a face that is as white as sheet. Tita also hugged Marle and put on the seatbelt.

There is no problem with this.

「And click.」

The booster was installed so that the propulsion is directed to diagonally forward. The emergency rocket booster is ignited.

Orc Car flew high to the sky right away.

It used the mana converter’s stored mana vigorously and the car  accelerated until it is just a step short of breaking the sound barrier.

「As I thought, this is, SCARYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY」(Kururu)

「KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA」

「Otou-san, this is fun!」

Kururu is screaming and clinging on the steering wheel. Tita and Marle are clinging on me.

The three of them are showing three different reactions in enjoying the sky travel.

Yep, as I thought the emergency rocket booster is really fun.

The problem is its hellish fuel consumption.

The high capacity mana converter is dried up instantly.

After that the car got dragged by gravity and fell down.

「Kururu, land on top of the leyline. If not, the car frame won’t be able to endure the landing’s impact.」

「I’ll do it-, I’ll do it but, please correct the deviation with wind  magic. It’s impossible to do it with just the normal direction  controllllllllllllllll!」

「I’m in this state right now……Tita, try to do it.」

「Eh, me!?」

「Tita is loved by wind spirits. You’re going to be more reliable than someone in the middle of rehabilitation like me.」

「I-I get it.」

Kururu is desperately controlling the car’s posture.

But, the falling speed is too fast, and on top of that we are 200  meter above ground right now. The land is far below, and the width of  the leyline is only five meter at best.

In addition the car can’t move well in the sky.

「Tita-san, to the right.」

「Ei-」

「Just like that, with that wind strength!」

Their teamwork is really good.

The ground is rapidly approaching.

「Our falling speed is too fast. It will be bad like this even if we fall on the leyline-」

「My wind won’t be able to decelerate the car in time」

「It’s fine, the car will slow down soon.」

The acceleration of the freefall settled down.

The reason is simple. The more our altitude decreased and the nearer  we got to the leyline, the greater the mana recoil became. That trait of  the recoil gradually getting stronger worked in our favor and softened  the impact of the landing.

(Although, I guess the speed is still a bit too fast.)

Marle used magic and our falling speed decreased even more.

She isn’t using wind.

I’m feeling genuinely shocked.

It’s a very advanced magic. Actually the nature of the mana flowing  in the leyline isn’t uniform everywhere. Due to that, the difficulty of  this magic is the need to constantly adjust the change the mana to suit  the recoil’s nature.

「Marle understand after watching the whole time.」

Oh man, my daughter might be a genius.

Tita’s wind, and Marle’s magic, and Orc Car’s structure engaged with  each other to make us land with the ideal speed. And then the car shot  off again with absurd speed.

「We’re saved somehow. Tita-san, Marle, thank you very much.」

「It’s thanks to Kururu-chan’s driving.」

「Yaa, Marle has done her best!」

Only Marle is energetic. Kurura and Tita are looking weary. It  mustn’t be just my imagination that Kururu’s fluffy tail is looking  withered.

「For a while there will be nothing ahead from here other than a flat land. So relax.」

「I’m relieved hearing that……Tita-san, please take turn driving with me.」

「Um, Kururu. Sorry. That’s, I think I won’t be able to deal with it  if the situation become like just now. That, I don’t want to die, and I  don’t want to doom us all.」

In the first place Tita’s driving skill isn’t great, I’m also in  rehabilitation. There is nobody else that can be entrusted by this wild  horse other than Kururu.
