That seems to be the general feeling :D - it was worth a go and just did not work out - there is a new version of the Devil's Bargain coming out on Wednesday. Which will be a Stand Alone and Expanded Text Story and a subtitle version.

I think the subtitle style you use for Dark Circus and most of your other comics works well. Having the subtitle boxes adjacent or off to the side of the page actions, helps with the flow and maintaining continuity of the plot. However, the style used Devils Bargain feels like it took away from the story and flow of the comic pages. I think this style or something similar would work if you were to do an illustrated novel, where you'd have blocks of text complimented by an illustration.

It's still an option, and everything is still on the table. Generally, people seemed to think they got in the way (same with the boxes in Black Swan), which is why I went to the 'subtitle style text' (two lines at the bottom) then, people seemed to want more description and story, so I tried this way. I think it probably depends on the story, for example, Fantasyland: Pop Stars (out next month) will be subtitle style as its got more of an 'anime vibe and feel' so that works better. As I said at the end of the day I'm not attached to any particular way, so thanks for letting me know :)
