He didn't. he gave a very vague description because you are supossed to be guessing how exactly it works through the whole arc. You don't get an actual explanation until near the end of the arc. This is 100% a spoiler.

Basically what happens in between gets erased and the time skips to a later ”step”. And this isn’t a spoiler, it’s a less dramatic explanation with an example of what the boss said
