S2 has 2 1/2 arcs: GGO, Calibur (Mini Arc), and Mother's Rosario "Ordinal Scale" Movie takes place inbetween S2 & S3 (not in LN but confirmed canon by author) S3 is harder to define into separate arcs since they're all under the general arc term of "Alicization"

2019-04-22 22:14:37 +0000 UTCIf I'm not mistaken, from what I vaguely remember about the opening segments of the GGO arc from the LN, I think Kikuoka (Kirito's "Boss") gave the M-9000 avatar type to Kirito upon conversion since I think the government had some level access to them, or at least his cabinet did, so he paired with Kirito as a bonus reward or something for accepting the job lol
