Q&A part 1

Our cameras are being funky so we had to break this into two videos! Thank you all for your questions this month!

Q&A part 1

Comments

Sorry Just found out tops is available in Australia

Honey

I think a healthy combo of both methods is ideal. I try to make the meals pretty hefty so that when they are going without afterwards they are not concerned about it in the least!

BirdTricks

I saw you mentioned Harrison's bird pellet is not good. Honey is actually on Harrison. Although I give her fresh vegetables every day too. We're planning to switch to the seasonal feeding system but I still need to find a good pellet brand. We're living in Australia so it's unable for us to get birdtricks' or Top's pellets here. Is there any other brand you can suggest? Thanks

Honey

Thanks birdtricks for your advice on my little screaming monster. We decided to hire some soundproof equipments to add into our guest room and put Honey into there for her training. My neighbors are nice to Honey. They actually like her. We just feel it's unfair for them to constantly have this level of noise. So soundproof equipment should help a lot. And we bought a camera to monitor her in this room. Just in case anything happens to her or avoid us to accidentally enter into the room while she's screaming. Let's see how it goes.

Btw my bf laughed at me when Jamie scolded me lolol XD

My bf and I really enjoyed Dave's expression when Jamie was reading my "question"XD!! My grey has gotten so muchhh better this month thanks to Birdtricks and before I started the consultation I didn't even expect to solve her feather chewing problem because I thought I have tried everything. I really hope more people get to know this, imagine how many birds will be happier. FYI my grey rarely chews her feathers now :D! I know it will only get better since the irritations might take some time to fully go away.

Awesome questions and answers. I didn’t know that about Harrison’s but it’s my own stupid fault because I’m a vet tech and I KNOW to pay attention to ingredients. The problem is that while I absolutely know what dogs, cats, and bearded dragons need, I’m still learning what birds need. I’ve got your feeding system too, but I figured a conversion pellet might be necessary since I know my baby is being weaned onto seeds. 😒

Thank you for answering my question abut my baby pionus. He is a little bigger than a caique, about the size of a jardines. I think you may be right about him possibly being weaned too early. He was weaned onto seeds. The breeder said that he couldn't come home until he wasn't asking for a hand feeding for at least two weeks, and he never asked me for one, but that doesn't mean the weaning wasn't sooner than it should have been. He likes his pellets soaked in liquid at night before bed and that's a lot like baby formula. I've been keeping ahead of his appetite by stocking his cage with lots of fresh veggies during the day. He seems to be happy as long as he has something to nibble. He is playing with the veggies I leave as much as he is eating them but they are clearly very important to him. He gets very excited when I bring them. Is providing plenty of low calorie foods for snacking the best way to deal with fear of starving in birds or is it better for them to slowly learn to take regular meals with occasional treats offered?

I feel for that person who’s got a baby bird attention screaming. I do work outside of the home 4 days a week but my baby parrotlet knows when I’m home, inside the house. She doesn’t scream when I actually leave the house but she will scream if I leave for another part of the house. She will scream until I show up in the living room where her cage is. She’s only clingy enough to just want me to be in the same room so she’ll be on me for a while and then do her own thing like eat or play with toys. Her cage is being moved to my bedroom anyways since her being I the living room was just her quarantine situation (and then some, oh the joy of fitting a second cage) since my cockatiel is in my bedroom. Her quarantine is over anyway, so I just take her up to the bedroom where I hang out most of the time. I admit to taking naps with her but I don’t move during sleep anyway, I just sleep on my back instead of my side. I know I have to address the screaming at some point though...😬. I do ignore her screaming when I put her to bed and she doesn’t want to...she stops eventually, lol. My parents and siblings are late sleepers (11pm-ish) anyway and I put her to bed at 9pm.
