This brought tears to my eyes.. when he was showing off his pretty wings. I think he definitely wants to fly, but is so unsure.. you guys are amazing, I just love Sunny! I think he will fly...

I absolutely loved this video but the music was just too loud and distracting for me.

I love when he was holding his wings open while Dave was holding him, for a few seconds it looked like Sunny was giving Dave a hug! U can see the bond with them and the way they interact, it’s so sweet 💙

That totally makes sense for arthritic animals. I’m a vet tech working mostly with dogs and cats and that’s something we stress for our arthritic patients. 😊💖🦜

Sunny moves slowly like he’s arthritic and shows no signs of willingness to hop so that’s why Dave started with walking recalls instead. We feel like the key with Sunny - at least right now - is to keep him moving so he’s more willing to move. 💕

I absolutely love this video! The music, total macaw cuteness, and just a couple flight recalling their birds on beautiful days! I wish I was experienced enough of a bird owner to own a macaw, but I also know eventually I can and will be. Sunny is an absolutely breath-taking boy, especially when he spreads out his wings and tail feathers. 😍 I was expecting to see you guys showing footage of him being trained from scratch since you weren’t sure what all he might or might not know yet. I guess I assumed Sunny already had floor recall, but it could also just be a while since this actually happened. 😅🤷🏼♀️😉 I was expecting to see footage of him working to hop from a T stand, but it makes better sense to start at the VERY beginning. That can be difficult to remember, but it helps if we think of them as babies. My caique is, so this is good to keep in mind to teach patience. I love seeing you and Dave’s different methods of training. Can’t wait to tune in to more Sunnyside! 😊🦜💖

This makes me sooooo happy (although, it was a wait, Mr. Womach)! ;)
I really really really hope Sunny will build up his muscles and join your macaws in the air! He is definitely wanting it so, in my mind, it's just the matter of giving him enough time.

I love the walking recall. I did that with my baby bird who was clipped by the breeder. I didn't realize that I was leading him into flight recall. It was just a convenient thing to train and easy to do with a baby. If we call him from anywhere in the house he comes running like a little puppy. He even climbs up and down the carpeted stairs. We let him walk himself to his sleeping cage. He loves having that independence. One thing I do to help him take short safe flights on his clipped wings is put him on the back of the sofa while I sit in front of him. I lean as far forward as I can and encourage him to fly/leap onto me. He feels safe doing it because he knows the sofa is a soft landing if he misses. Although he never misses anymore and is doing more flapping than jumping now. He got big treats and paise at first but now he does it because he enjoys it. My pionus is a lot smaller than a macaw. I'm not sure if it's safe to have a macaw jumping onto your back. Having the large target of my whole back really helped my bird have the confidence to try. He is still only willing to do a big stretch to my hand. I think Sunny will be flying soon. He definitely wants to do it. You guys are doing such a wonderful thing for him.

I love the idea of a walking recall for a non-flying bird. Still haven’t gotten to the point of stepping up here, so we are pretty stuck. But healthier and happier are good goals. I would love to see you work with a truly aggressive project bird.

You guys look absolutely adorable running and crawling through that net, all to help Sunny 😍
I am not sure if that would be a good idea, but what about putting Sunny on a super low t stand, from which he could hop to the floor and ask for a walk-recall from there. I think hopping is the step before flying, maybe it could help?
Then take it the other direction, hopping upwards, so he might take his wings for a little support? I might be completely wrong 😂 but that came to mind 😄

I had another thought. Think about how sore we get when we haven’t exercised in a long time. The soreness can be painful. I think you offer it everyday that you can and it will happen.

Way to go Sunny! Totally got teary eyed when he was lifting his wings in the beginning... the walking recall footage was also super helpful and informative! Thank you for everything you two do on a daily basis!

No doubt in my mind that Sunny will fly!! You can see it in his spirit! I bet once he is feeling better, he will make progress!
