All About Aloe

I had a post on Instagram get comment-hijacked based on some false rumors regarding the use of aloe on birds. So here we are to set the record straight.

If you are interested in using aloe on your bird, this is the one we recommend

I remember a while ago I came across this person’s comments (they also claimed to be a vet so they could call out loud a cash grab), I almost commented on their comments but I was sure you gonna give a good straight factual answer and here you did. Ugh some people want to be a warrior so bad they take down other warriors on the way... 🤷🏻‍♂️😒

I could not find the old one so I made a new one lol, thanks for noticing and liking it!

Love the intro sequence to this video! Is it new or am I just slow to notice? Thank you for the excellent info as always. I have the aloe spray. My birds seem to prefer water, (maybe because it's lighter) but tolerate the aloe spray well enough.

Nothing about Aloe but my 8 year old son and I now have a game where before the next video comes out we guess what colour Jamie's hair will be. Winner gets to have breakfast with our Eclectus and Macaw.

I bought the aloe, but my bird hates the sprayer. I know y’all are coming out with one so I can at least give him an aloe bath once a week. Monty likes to bathe two to three times per week usually. Thank you for the knowledge drop! 🎤

Gosh. I’m so sorry folks do that kind of stuff (abuse words, hijack posts, and present their experiences as the truth for all). Aloe helps my girl, under vet advice, and I’m thankful BT always always always says supplements should be vet guided. Hugs to everyone at BT. We have a better life because of you. 🥰

The system we just had installed that I was talking about is a new one that does use salt but it does not add it to the water. It also uses ozone to remove the iron. The birds are loving it and drinking it. Softening the water does change the taste but it only took us a day to get used to it. The internet is full of horror about water softeners but I was assured by the people who drilled our well that the birds would be fine AND the man who came to test the water and sell us the system; his wife has a parrot. My birds go right in the shower and the Grey likes to drink while he’s in there. Week two; everyone is alive, healthy and far less itchy without the magnesium coating.😂 I forgot to mention, the “taste” that was different wasn’t a salt taste; it’s the difference between having minerals in the water which are what make hard water delicious if that’s what you are used to and tasting more like maybe distilled water.

I have a question about this. I have a home in the forest/country where it's farm area and forest right next to lake Michigan. I have SUPER hard water and everyone does around me. I talked to them. Almost everyone has a water softer using salt to combat the hard water which looks like magnesium. The water doesn't smell at all. I have yet to get it tested we just moved here and I am going to get it tested but I can tell it's full of magnesium. But I HATE The soft water so much cuz it tastes a little bit like salt. I keep thinking that salt water is BAD for parrots and I have 5 of them. I am scared to death of the salt water(soft water) ruining there feathers and now I'm also afraid of the water I have without the soft water cuz it has so much magnesium in it. I would love to know what your thoughts are Jamie. When I get it tested coming up here soon I will know what to do. I had a whole house pelican water system on my last home in a small town to filter the towns water so all my parrots were safe. I PAY though the nose for all this and don't mind doing it. I'm finally in my forever home on 3 and half acres I just want it safe for my parrots. Thank you for your thoughts. Also last thing my little lovebirds love bathing in the shower with me and I let them fly around while doing this and have perches in the corners of the walls for them as they LOVE it! But what about the salt in the water they drink it and it worries me that that is way to much salt for there bodies to handle.

Wow, I love this! I remember while living in Florida the water literally smelled bad, and we were like omg, what is in this?! Water is of very different quality everywhere, that's for sure. Testing your water was a brilliant thing to do.

I have something positive to say about aloe! I have been using aloe since Jamie saw Sapphire and Ashes and said “ You should be spraying them with aloe”. Here is another piece; after doing this since March, I finally accepted that hard water was what was all over my laundry and shower. Next, thought; My God!! That’s all over their feathers!!! Two weeks later and $5000 later…. Water test revealed very high magnesium and we put in a water softener. Sapphire and Ashes seem to be having a great feather improvement with this and the aloe which I put on everyday after their bath. Ashes seems to be rapidly refeathering where he had started pulling after 2 years of this water. Waiting to see how it helps miss plucked Sapphire. I do see improvement with her as well. I think sometimes we don’t think about our water also. What do you and Patty say?
