Tasty Tuesday - Sprouting and Seed Mixes!

Comments

Im actually super happy you guys did this episode because I've had a lot of questions on this and I had found sprout people when I was looking over the cookbooks so this answered all my questions on this and that I was in the right place on Sproutpeoples website

Heather Bailey

I'm currently using a fortified pellet with the intention of switching to one similar to the BT pellets. He is already eating the seasonal feeding system which obviously has sprouts but I still haven't gotten him on to the new pellets yet (doesn't want to touch them). Should I stop with the fortified pellet right now or do I still have time to try and wean him off of the old pellet?

I use a mason jar and cheesecloth to sprout. So far I have only sprouted mung beans but I have grown lots of micro greens. How do you feel about that method for sprouting? Does it matter or would an actual sprouted be better?

I had already made my seed mix when you had released blueberry’s mix (and I made like 6lbs in the end for two small birds, oops, I put them in freezer). Forgive me, but when I saw the ingredient list, I was surprised to see hemp seed and rape seed because they are fatty seeds. I do sometimes sprinkle hemp seed on the sfs though. My current seed mix has canary seed, wheat berries, millet, quinoa, chia, oat groats, pearled barley and rye flakes. Some local reputable breeders really recommended canary seed in diy seed mixes but what are Patty’s thoughts? What about freezing seeds for storage?

My adulting side appreciated the how much sprouts answer. Wondered about that. Also, how much seeds do you usually give your budgie?

I'm totally laughing at you two! My trapped inner 12 yr old boy is having so much fun....rape seed...wet juicy ones...bahahaha.

I’d love it if you did a video when you do the sprouting! I’ve been wanting to do it but have shied away from it because of the whole bacteria thing. Definitely want to provide this nutritious food for my budgie.

I second the Sprout People recommendation. So simple to use. I have only tried their Lil Bird mix. My cockatiel and green cheek conure love it!

This was great! I am a big sprouter but now you have me worried I'm giving them to often. I never add them to the seasonal feeding system when I make it. I sprout separately then add them as they sprout for a couple of days. Then I do another batch. Does that sound to often?? My two bigger birds eat your pellets and sfs and my parrotlets eat Blueberry's seed mix and sfs I have trouble getting them switched but at least I know they are getting a good organic seed mix. So does that sound ok sprout wise or should I cut back??
