Tasty Tuesday - Teas for Parrots

This topic has been asked a lot about, and so we chat about using unmeasured dry tea mixes for parrots in today's topic of Tasty Tuesday.

Tasty Tuesday - Teas for Parrots

I'm so glad I joined Patreon. I've been following another avian person who does diets for many zoos and he makes his chop with coconut and half a bag of avian tea...so I thought maybe I could add some to my SFS. Dodged that bullet lol. I'm also glad to hear someone say that you shouldn't replace your birds water with tea. This would actually be really good to put out on YouTube...as a general safety thing for all parrots.

Thank you so much for this information! I’d love to meet Patty in person and pick her birdie brain!!

When I first saw the topic, my concern would be the amount of tannins in many teas. Doing a bit of my own research I found this study from Cornell: http://poisonousplants.ansci.cornell.edu/toxicagents/tannin.html. The part most concerning was: In poultry, small quantities of tannins in the diet cause adverse effects levels from 0.5 to 2.0% can cause depression in growth and egg production, levels from 3 to 7% can cause death. Note: percentages are % of diet. Unless parrots are specifically adapted to eat high tannin foods I'd stay away from the tea. On a side note, Cornell also has a great bird ID app called Merlin. It's free and is created and maintained by students there.

This is the first Tasty Tuesday I've been able to see❣ (New here on Patreon, my first month) I've been questioning tea for parrots for a while now. Thank you for this video. I too would like to know what tea you both give your flock.

I’d love to see what particular products you both have used for your own flock
