BirdTricks Tuesday - Body Language (Hormones)

A new episode of our body language series featuring our own flock!

BirdTricks Tuesday - Body Language (Hormones)

Comments

No, it's not so normal for them to be hormonal during summer. We usually see it in the spring and fall. Ensuring the diet is correct and they're getting 12 hours will help, we also have a hormones course here: https://birdtricksstore.com/collections/behaviors-and-training/products/spring-hormones

Hi thanks for sharing this video it's useful to see to Cressie's behaviour. Our bird is hormonal all of the summer when it's hot literally for four months. Is this normal she's an orange winged Amazon? I am trying to adjust her diet at the moment and see if it makes a difference, hoping that less seeds means less hormonal behaviour

Lara

Avert your eyes! 😂

Carrie Stewart

Great Thank you so much :)

We bought the wood top pre-cut at Home Depot and the base is from a magic shop (haha) but it's like a restaurant supply store sort of thing that would have something similar, all Dave did was add casters to it.

O yeah can you please tell me the peaces for that round table that she sat on so I can buy them and make one for myself. Wonderful tool for changing things up from the T stand and making it fun for birds to land on as well so they learn to STOP put the wings out and land correctly while trick training them. Thank you in advance. :)

Hey there Jamie and Dave. Cressi is a perrrrfect one to use for this cuz Cressi is a great example of what hormones look like and what to do or NOT to do.

My 1.2 month old pionus occasionally makes a wheezy noise when I scratch his cheeks. It sounds hormonal but he has been doing it since he was a baby. We haven't seen any hormonal behavior from him yet. It may just be a happy noise but I always stop petting when he does it just in case it is something that might be a hormonal trigger in the future. Our now departed cockatiel used to wiggle his tail like Cressi if my husband held his thumb a certain way. He was immediately put down when that started. Fortunately neither bird allowed petting areas other than their heads. Totally indignant like, "bad touch! Call the police!" Thank you for making these videos. I see so many videos online where people are molesting their poor birds.

I loved this video so much! Hilarious! 😂 but also a great reminder as we head towards Spring in the Southern Hemisphere.

Cheeky definitely gets hormonal if you pet her cheeks too much, she makes like a "chewing" kind of yawning looking face, and often regurgitates. Oh, Cheeky. If only I could pet your fluffy cheeks more often. What a tease lol jk. ;) I think Cheeky's response is likely very similar to Widget's.

I don't want to sound like an idiot, but back in one of your masterclass videos there was a gcc and the owner kissed it on the wing/shoulder and Dave told him that was wayyy too sexualized. But then today, while Cressi seemed hormonal, Dave kissed Cressi on the wing/shoulder. So is it ok to do that? Wouldn't this specific context be when Dave would recommend not to kiss your bird there? I'm sorry, I get so easily confused about petting. I know I already asked this on a live months ago, but the nuance just seems to go right over my head.

Cress-er-ton!!! It sure is good to see you girl!

Thank you so much for this video. So much was included in here that I'm going to have to re-watch it a couple times lol! I am comforted to know I'm not the only one having many of the issues you talked about with Chrissy with my female African gray!

Paulette Melick

Loved this! Now I'm not so nervous to experience hormonal behavior with my baby when it 'comes of age' 😆

Brittany Hayes

I think you need to do this for women - all I know is dealing with my 24 yr old once a month is a nightmare! :-) So funny!!

Oh I'm so happy to see Cressi, she's my favorite of all your birds. I have a timnah and she also has those clicks where one is annoyed and one is when she's having fun. It's interesting to see her hormones, I've only ever seen the tail behavior in my male cockatiels. None of my other birds of either gender do a swishing of the tail. I'm fairly lucky in the hormone department my male ekkie is my most hormonal bird, like anytime of the year but even then he is fairly easily redirected. Thanks for sharing her behavior it was helpful, as always

Jodi

Omg, this is hysterical!! Tears!😂
