Oh Flock! Berry is back... literally

So this time on Oh Flock (there will probably be fewer of these episodes as I navigate just how to go about training this...) I want to try to hold Berry in my hand on her back. So first I am just working on getting her used to my hand cradling her back.

At first (didn't get this on camera) she was NOT OK with it and was running off or flying off and I kept bribing her back to me with millet. But finally I got this response and was so happy!

Again, since I have two project birds... I won't be working on this a ton so don't expect a lot of episodes yet!

I trained my Quaker, Paco, to do this. Pretty much the same way. I took it a step further, to be able to lay him on a scale as he HATED the scale perch the vet had. The tech was so taken aback that he ran and got the doc to see what I had trained Paco to do.πŸ˜† I now tell him "momma grab a bird" and if he is ok with being grabbed, he will raise a foot up to grab my thumb.

I agree totally. My bird seems violated when I touch beyond the neck! I have attempted the smallest touch, but wasn't using the clicker. This inspires me to try again. Wing examination is on the goal list for our 1st year together. So I am right there with you!!

Thanks for posting this. I really need to train my bird on this and wing inspection too. I worry about not being able to examine him all over without him freaking out. Right now he acts like, "Bad touch! I'm calling the police!" 🀣

Awesome! I learn every time I watch you train.
